Pat Miletich once told me at a training:
I would rather fight a great fighter in mediocre shape than a mediocre fighter in great shape….
I know at the beginning a lot of students want to focus on technique and don’t see the point in doing conditioning, but our job as instructors is to prepare you for a fight. Part of that aspect is to be able to be in the best physical shape possible.
Let say you do train… when you look around you in the class, do you see people that, aside from training krav maga, go to the gym and do push ups/situps at home?
When we take on the challenge of teaching krav maga,we take on the challange on making that person as capable as possible to defense from all scenarios that make a self defense situation.
Maybe you will not fight for 10 minutes in a real fight… how about 30 seconds with 4 people trying to give you a beating… would that make you tired?
How about if you are sleeping and one moment later you find yourself fighting 2 intruders who are planning on raping your wife and kids… our job is to make sure you will fight as hard and for as long as it takes to get you out of that situation.
Keep training and with time it will all make sense.December 13, 2007 at 5:19 pm #59136alan360MemberRe: MMA fighters wanted
The main difference is that it is actually made by fighters and coaches who belong to the same gym and actually train together.
I really like the IFL, but I do think they felt short on a few teams, for that exact reason.
For example the Tokyo team…. it is actually based in Los Angeles, with a coach that never really trained in mma and with good fighters that would only see each other at the fights… that created a lot of friction…December 8, 2007 at 4:44 am #58956alan360MemberRe: MMA fighters wanted
that is great! I guess you got my message… and I am very glad you have decided to do this.
Do you want to meet down there for their next event?

The only way Ryan and I could fight is if I moved to Darfur for 6 months or if Ryan was sponsored by Burger King…

Don’t worry… they are not a mc dojo.
Most of them have been teaching since the mid 90s and have a great wealth of experience.
We have worked together a few times and they always seem like a great group.November 28, 2007 at 8:05 pm #58510alan360MemberRe: Krav Maga OC
Krav Maga OC has a great program. Just called them up ad I am sure they will be able to answer any questions you might have.

The guy is Thierry Viatour. Last I knew he was in the school in Gorle (BG).
I would check with him before going to the school in Naples. Krav Maga is not regulated very well there…
There are some good instructors, but there are also a lot of guys that only had a few days of training and started teachingNovember 26, 2007 at 1:26 am #58370alan360MemberRe: Krav in Naples, Italy
The guy from Belgium actually lives in Bergamo, Italy, where he operates a small school. Call him and I am sure he will help you. Italy has a very disorganized Krav Maga set up… he will probably help you navigate the Krav Maga Italian connection…
