Re: Cross Body Escape
BG left hand is based on the ground and is more closer to waist than head.
Officer has no back up gun..June 7, 2012 at 9:15 pm #85155co611MemberRe: Cross Body Escape
Let’s assume officer is right handed, holster/gun is on right hip, and you’re looking down at him from above so that officer’s head is at 12 o’clock and feet at 6. If we’re talking about a bad guy being on top of the officer and in side control (perpendicular), is the BG oriented with his feet at 3 o’clock
Officers hands are Free..
Officer can he freely touch his gun/holster with his primary gun hand..
BG has grip on gun with their right hand…
BG is low on knees and there is a small amount of space..March 6, 2011 at 7:00 pm #81547co611MemberRe: Training drills…..
you use to be able to get alot of drills off KM website before they overhauled it. Maybe someone from LA can direct you how to access them now..

Awesome!!!, it was a Series 2,3,5 course…Yet again Jon put on an excellent week of training and the local officers were great to work with..
My only complaint is that there is not enough oxygen in Denver!!!
Already looking forward to the 1-5 recert course in LA and Phase A..

I’ll preface this by saying I have no training in the SPEAR system, but have viewed many of Tony’s videos
The Startle Flinch is no more than an initial reaction to an attack or attempted attack and by your own response, that it didn’t feel entirely intuitive shows that not everyone is going to react the same way. They make it seem as if everyone’s ingrained startle flinch is what he teaches and this isn’t the case.
Krav does have initial reactions, outside defense , inside defense, various kicks etc.
As an officer, my responses vary greatly on the situation especially if I have a flashlight, firearm or both in my hands…

thanks for the suggestions, I did final find what seems to be exactly what i was looking for. http://www.scpsdi.net has a water survival class. Have had several communications with them and am now in the process of sending information up the chain of command.
If you ever get the chance to do any water dt in full gear i would highly recommend it.
It is an eye opening experience and will change your outlook on working around water.dave

tactics for being engaged underwater would be good. Here is my dilemma, in order for our classes to be certified through our law enforcement council you have to be certified in that area. And yes I can develop my own based on my krav certifications but i need to address areas such as tactical entries (solo or engaged), weapon retention in holster. It still could be taught to our recruits but wouldn’t have the approval and backing that would be needed if challenged.
Redman Inc. advertises its Water Safety Survival class as the only one of its kind in the US, and it appears they not kidding. I have been signed up for the past 2 years and they have canceled every class due to lack of participation.
We use Redman training right now but our lead instructor has been promoted and his ability to teach in the future will be limited.
Long story short, don’t want to implement a training program without certification.
thanks again

i appreciate it, we patrol all the waterways in the state so it could be anything ranging from a small county lake to the Ohio/Mississippi rivers. And my focus is primarily on the confrontations not swift or cold water rescues.

It’s really going to depend on where you live, the law varies from state to state. If its something your truely concerned about I would try get a copy of the law relating to the “protection of another”. In KY you are justified in using physical and deadly force for the protection of a third party if the person whom you are protecting would have been justified to use the same force.
At the very least call 911 and standby to help victim after the attack.
