I would say that it couldn’t hurt to try. Do you do any other physical fitness right now?

One of my best friends in high school wrestled at 103 lbs and was normally about 115 and he was 5’4\” tall. He joined the Navy and thanks to the SEALS within 3 years he was about 170lbs of muscle, luckily he maintained his easy going personality most of the time. Moral of the story I guess would be, you are still young and any type of physical fitness training will help build muscle. Krav has the benifit of learning how to defend yourself. Hit the weights, do Krav, and eat lots.

    Good Luck.

    Evidence of Goliath

Hey everyone, I thought since this thread had gone so far away from the original post that I would just help it along a bit.

I read this report about 2 months ago and thought that KravMDJeff might like it. Although I read it in another Archeology periodical this is the link to CBS. Thought it might be of interest although it doesn’t solidify the existance of Goliath it is interesting to note that there was a Philistine family with that name living in the area reported by the bible.

    Have a great day.

jjbklb thanks for the concern. I appreciate it. As far as the intensity and tests for my heart go I have had just about every test known to man (some of them not nearly as fun as others). I have my first class medical cert. for my commercial pilot’s license and they make you jump through a ton of hoops to get it once you have had heart surgery.

The doctor that cleared me was a cardiologist. I have had to learn when to say when, which is hard sometimes, but as I get a little older I have learned when enough is enough. As I had mentioned earlier the high blood pressure is intermittent, so it isn’t always high, but they have to treat it as if it is high. The bummer of the deal is that when my heart rate should be up around 170+ to keep up with what my body is requiring it is being held down to 150. It is something that I have had to deal with in the past, but usually once my body gets used to the added exercise load I am just fine. Sometimes this can take a little while, but so far so good.

I have heard from others and read on this forum about people passing out in Krav class or having to lay down and take a breather. That is intense. Any way I look at it I am just plain fired up about training. Had another class last night and got a chance to train with some guys that were about my same size and build which was cool. Loving the intensity and no nonsense approach that Krav takes towards self defense.

    Ryan,
I had mentioned to my intructor that after a couple of months was I still going to feel like my heart was going to explode every class. His response was that if it didn’t he wasn’t doing his job.

As far as the sweating goes, I feel sorry for anyone that I have to partner with. I am one of those guys that if he is breathing he is sweating. I have always been like this even as a young Marine.

I see your point about the intensity. I am sure that my fitness level will increase dramatically as I continue training. But if I don’t leave feeling exhausted I should really be looking at the effort I put into the class.

I appreciate the insight it does hold a lot of truth.

I have been cleared by my doctor to do physical activity. I wear a heart monitor during weight lifting and normal cardio and monitor my heart rate. When I say increase my intensity I mean make my heart rate increase and then work up to more time. I am not going to try to do both at the same time.

I currently keep my heart rate around 135 to 145 for 20 minutes or so when I do cardio, but I am pretty sure it is quite a bit higher than that while doing Krav. I haven’t worn my monitor while training yet and don’t know that I really could. I think that it would get in the way. It is one of the ones with the chest strap and wrist monitor.

I am currently taking one medication that holds my heart rate down and this causes my body to starve for oxygen. It makes working out a little more challenging, as it also causes me to feel tired 99.9% of the time. My resting heart rate is generally about 45-50 beats per minute. It has been as low as 37 while I was being monitored at the doctor’s office. To make a long story short, the doctors have pretty much told me to just work through the medication and the more exercise I can do the better off I will be in the long run.

Until I am more used to the intensity level in Krav I guess I will just need to keep taking breaks.

Does anyone else take similar medication? If so I would be interested to see how you have progressed. I take a beta blocker and blood pressure meds. I had a mitral valve prolapse brought on by intermittent hypertension. No family history of this problem and military had no idea how it happened. It went from fine to needing surgery within 6 months. I was 24 years old and thought I was in good shape. They have several theories on the cause, but nothing concrete.

Thanks for the link it looks like a good site.

I do a lot of stepmill and precor machines. I think that I need to increase my length of time and intensity. I take heart medication which kind of jacks with things sometimes also. Pretty much just excited to be training and looking forward to class tonight.

    Thanks again

I’m not sure what happened to that one. I had a friend that was going there, but haven’t spoken to him in a while.

A new school opened in the HEB area on Saturday. They are affiliated with KMDFW. Here is there website if you are interested.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I am definately going to check it out. Probably won’t be able to for a few weeks due to my work schedule, but once I get things all lined out I should be able to devote 2 or 3 days a week to training.

I would love to go to one of the intro classes, but I coach my son’s soccer on Saturdays until November. I am hoping to train Tues and Thursday with as many Mondays as I can.

Thanks again for all of the responses and I am looking forward to training.
