Re: Things that make me go HHHmmm

I knew where you coming from when you posted it. And the “master of combat” crack doesn’t change my opinion. Although Sarcasm would have been a better choice of words for my post. The fact of the matter is that many people have become disillusioned with several fighting systems because of the situations that you mention and are looking for a better way, which KM seems to be. And in my opinion, anyone who has spent many years training in varying martial systems can plainly see what KM has to offer and can judge by experience whether its for them or not.
I totally agree that no one should be allowed to teach or open a school without the proper training and credentialing. And from what I’ve seen so far, KMWW wouldn’t allow it to begin with. But to immediately assume that someone who has the desire to bring KM to their particular area, would rely solely upon videos and books to achieve that goal is insulting to say the least.

As for the Novice / Combat comment, My point is that there are quite a few people who have served in high risk occupations and or trained and became proficient in a variety of combat systems. And to just dismiss the idea of someone being able to adapt their techniques and learn the KM system from books and video does those practitioners a great disservice.

So take it for what its worth, I’m done ranting. Think what you want.

The top two posts come off as arrogant, in my opinion. And as someone who has posted just what you mention, you might want to get a little more information before passing judgment. Not everyone who comes to this system is a novice as far as combat is concerned.

    Re: Level Testing?

The book and videos, Theres also a guy who’s level 2 moving down here from Michigan who I’m going to start training with, eventually. Besides that I have a friend who owns a MMA gym who I’m going to get to help with my practice. Stress drills and such. Basically anything I can do to learn and gain experience. I’m going to send a call out to any practitioners in my area to see if I can at least get a club started. Not a training center mind you. Just a few folks I can get together to practice with. As far as I can tell, thats about my only option at this point. It’s either that or travel 100 miles one way to go to a training center, and considering I work nights, thats not gonna fly.

I’m brand new to this, but not fighting in general. I’m just trying to put my ducks in a row so I have an outline of my training goals. So I’m just soliciting info at this point.

The only other choice I have is going to an ATA gym, and I’m not to confident in that strategy.

    Thanks

Re: Huge variation in KMWW, the ones I’ve been to SUCK. But you might be lucky.

I think the points that are missing here in regards to comparing training to a show are:

    1. The guys on the show are seasoned fighters so sparring at that level is less dangerous than throwing inexperienced practitioners in pads and letting them go at it.

    2. For a one hour show they tape roughly 20+ hours of raw footage.

    3. Even in the show you saw whats his name get the crap kicked out of him and he’ll need at least a week to recover. You probably wouldn’t have many students returning after damage like that is inflicted.

That being said, I know from experience that several traditions don’t let their students free spar in class until they reach certain levels. Even MMA. And while I’m just off the boat as far as KM is concerned. My advice would be, If you want to free spar that bad, go buy some pads and you and your friend go out in the yard and go at it. Thats what we do around here. thumbsup

Re: CMON OVER AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF- DON’T BE SHY 🙂

Hey Folks, I’m so new in this arena that I squeak, but I’ve been toying with the idea of learning this system for years. Finally my life is settled enough to devote the necessary time and energy. Thanks for everyones hard work and dedication, so that folks like me have a chance to learn.

    Respects
