Re: My second match from the 2011 Jean-Jacques Machado In-House Tourney.

Here is my first match where I get triangled. I was still feelling pseudo-unconscious afterwards, and you can see it on my face =)

I could have used that chair in this match. I’m a brown belt in judo and in ju jits, by the way. You live by the throw, you die by the throw.

Re: Congrats to the new 2nd degree black belts!

That is some sweet Terminator eye I got there. Nice photo!

Thanks CJD. Plenty of work went behind it. Thanks to all my training partners, local and far, and all the quality instruction. We had Kelly, Waldman, Blue, and Darren on the floor at the same time one night. Bad assery.

Never give up, folks. If I can do it, so can you!

Sherman Oaks and WLA. Where else?!

She is krav-cultivated, through and through.

Re: Getting up from guard help??

To be clinical, the left foot, that is the top foot/kicking foot, is in a toes up/dorsiflexed position. Think of the standard front kick from a groundfighting position. Knee is in flexion, then extend hips and knee, driving your heel throw his face/chest.

Refer to the photos on pages 81 and 155 of the Complete Krav Maga book for more clarification.

To be more realistic, just worry about kicking the bad guy in the face! Furthermore, are you left-handed? I feel stronger with my right leg so I like to kick off from the guard with my right foot chambered for the kick. It’s okay to do it on the other side.

Let me know if this helps.

Wasn’t thinking about it, but I’ll look into it.

Re: CONGRATULATIONS to the 2010 class of Black Belts!!

The aftermath/ceremony. 8 black belts on the mat at SVKM!

Darren was scheduled to attend but unfortunately got caught up with work. Other black belts were also to attend.

Jeremy passed his exam. The top brass (Bluestein and Sovetky) decided to go old school-they gave him a belt ceremony, which hasn’t been done in nearly 20 years!

Jeremy was given Bluestein’s black belt-the belt Imi gave him in Israel. REAL COOL to spectate such an event, but undescribably meaningful to have been part of the ceremony.

We have 4 black belts at SVKM now-two 4th degrees, a first degree, and hopefully a second dan soon.

    Once again, congrats, my friend.

    Re: Phase A

    quote saruotoko:

    Phase A = Level 1
    Phase B = Level 2
    Phase C = Level 3

In general, you won’t get cleared to teach your own class on a solo basis until you finish Phase C. But you can definitely assist Level 1 classes on a gradually increasing amount of contribution, based on how many classes you’ve observed a lead instructor make corrections, etc.

So, after Phase A, you can expect to get a chance to assist classes. Having said that, all the pertinent details will be explained to you before, during, and after Phase. 🙂

    It’s a great experience!

    Mario

Kirsten is indeed correct, but so is Mario. We do things differently in S.O. and NTC. Because we have so many black belt instructors around (some 15-20 black belts showed up to the last black belt exam!), the fledgeling instructors have to pay their dues before being assigned a class.

    Re: warrior dash

    Hell yeah.

L.A.’s race is in April. Sold out a couple weeks ago. Just had a meeting with some Krav compadres about this. We’re thinking of making up shirts.

    Can’t wait.

Re: Favorite Place to go to for Phase classes

    quote saruotoko:

Just my $0.02, but it’s hard to beat the National Training Center and the sister school in Sherman Oaks. 🙂

    Yup. Home court advantage.

Re: Josh Wolf sportin KMWW hat on Chelsea Lately!

Heheh. Haven’t seen Josh in class for a while.

His boy should be a KM-X black belt this year.
