Re: Jeet Kune Do and Krav Maga
Bumping this thread. I’m really interested to hear how this went.
Thanks
quote Psyops:It’s interesting,Recently I have began a friendship with Paul Vunak. He is a pretty famous JKD Instructor/Historian who learned directly from Dan Inosanto. We have spoken at length about the similarities and the differences between the two systems. He has invited me to train at his home with his other top students and we will begin to really disect the two systems. I am honored of course.
Bruce Lee had an enormous influence on me so I have spent a great deal of time studying the man and the process of growth he often spoke about. In July of 2011 I will have Paul Vunak at my school in Las Vegas for a JKD seminar. Why? Because fundementally the systems are alligned. The truth is the bond between the systems. Being exposed to a variance in methodology is often times the catalyst to understanding. Just my opinion

Why don’t you order a Krav Maga DVD or some Paul Vunak DVDS and work at home? Sandbag carries, burpees, sprints, stair running, etc are all good as well. Judo will also be a nice addition to the tool box.

Im sorry, I should of been more clear. I meant full contact. As in contacting with the body part, but we wouldn’t obviously go at it 100%. I agree, I don’t feel like hurting my partner. haha I’ll look at the brands that were mentioned.
Thanks

Yeah, I relied on Judoinfo.com a lot when I was doing judo consistently.

Osoto Gari, Ouchi Gari, and all the other various trips and reaps are pretty efffective in a no gi clinch. I like Tia Otoshi myself. Spelling may be off as its been a long time that Ive looked at the judo guide. hahha

Thanks for the reply. Thats actually what we do. Also, we try and simulate a fight by sparring pretty hard considering the tools we are using. During the sessions, we include takedowns, clinching, Krav Maga/PFS techniques, and whatever else we can think of. We switch off on who is the aggresser. It seems to be working thus far. The Muay Thai strike pad has been a nice addition as well. In the near future we will be purchasing head gear. I also just ordered the Complete Krav Maga book.
