Re: Focus mitts-Help!
Don’t focus on the speed/power. Focus on getting the technique right and the speed/power will follow. Do the techniques slow and controlled, focusing completely on proper technique. Once you can do it without thinking about it, then start working on developing your speed and power.

Yes and No. Is the rank important for bragging rights or to show off? No, absolutely not. As Bruce Lee said “The only thing belts are good for is to hold your pants up.”
However, rank can be a symbol of your instructor’s approval of how well you’ve learned the techniques he’s been teaching you and how well you can demonstrate/teach those techniques to others.
I am actually planning to test for my Yellow belt here in the new couple of months, just to see if I can do it (goals are always important).

I have a question regarding an instructor in Florida as well as promotion questions, who would I contact to get an answer to these questions?
October 1, 2007 at 11:09 pm #56631soulburn18MemberI wish the school here offered more, but 3 a week is all the classes they have.
September 18, 2007 at 7:40 pm #56388soulburn18MemberThe school I go to charges $125 for 3 classes a week. 2 are 1 hour long and 1 is 45 minutes long. That seems to be about the average cost for classes.
September 15, 2007 at 5:33 pm #56330soulburn18MemberAhhh, thanks. I’d like to see the curriculum for the Instructor Certifications. I’ll do some research.

September 14, 2007 at 6:21 pm #56320soulburn18MemberSo to get certified do you go to a training facility for x number of days and then test at the end of the course?
September 14, 2007 at 3:31 pm #56318soulburn18MemberI ordered the Book and DVD set yesterday (hoping to receive them next week). I do, howerver, own Bas Rutten’s Books and DVDs and they are nothing short of awesome. His Self-Defense DVD is one of the best I’ve seen and I would definitely recommend it to anybody who is looking for additional techniques to use for self-defense.

September 14, 2007 at 11:34 am #56312soulburn18MemberBttrfly,
Go to http://www.mma.tv. In my opinion, it’s the biggest and best martial arts forum in the world. Anything you want to know you can most definitely get an answer there (just watch out for some of the trolls).
September 14, 2007 at 9:09 am #56311soulburn18MemberMost schools offer a free introductory lesson. Stop by, check out both schools, watch a few classes and then take a class at each school. See which one works better for you and which one fits better into your schedule.
September 14, 2007 at 2:50 am #56309soulburn18MemberIf you watch Bas Rutten’s Self-Defense DVD, a lot of the techniques he does fit the philosophy behind Krav Maga so I’m not surprised to find him somehow affiliated with the book.
BTW, his Street Self-Defense DVD is awesome.
