I hope to train with Blauer at some point. He has done a lot of work in the cerebral side of attacks, and applies it in context with what he teaches. There are many good video clips of him on the CrossFit site, and his work in managing assaults is very, very good.

    quote garddawg:

The point I was trying to make is, you haven’t done your homework regarding CF. If you had you would know that we are only interested in GPP, and that we are there to support the specialist.

Fair enough, however _my_ point was that in support of Krav or any other MMA or in support of a combat athlete (or serious weekend warrior for that matter) a program can be designed that could be superior to merely relying on CF. Would that program incorporate principles used by CF, yes most likely, but CF doesnít have a monopoly on those principles.
Letís leave this topic alone as I think we are on the same page.

No but they were the first to make them accessable to the general public and for free at that. They also rocked the world of so called fitness trainers or personal trainers with their methods. I used those princples in a regular gym last year even and the trainers all told me I was working out incorrectly, yet I was improving noticably daily. Now these same trainers are copying the methods. One who just last year trashed me is talking to his clients like he invented it. I pretty sure he takes the WOD’s and charges his clients for his baby sitting services

Yes its a flavor of the month in a way, everyones jumping on the bandwagon and yes maybe a good Strength and Conditioning coach could personalze a more specific workout for a client. But good S&C guys are expensive and very rare to come by. Of course the Bull****ters are all out there willing to take your dough. But you can’t say that about Xfit. Its all free on the site with plenty of support. If you go to Garddawg’s site its all broken down for all levels. I think it costs $25 for their newsletter which is full of info. Its accessable and user friendly and more importantly aligns you with good S&C coaches thru articles and seminars. It also teaches you to be self coached so you don’t have to depend on getting lucky and finding a good coach nor be a movie star to afford him

The reason its picking up all these endorsements is its easy to impliment, accomplishes the goals and is Time effective

    Interesting thread so far..

I am still trying to learn the lingo, what exactly is GPP? Is that a benchmark test in CrossFit?

Getting more interesting in adding CrossFit to my training. 🙂

Garddawg, Congratulations. I was on the xfit site doing some lite reading. I always said your site was one of the best sites for scaled down w/o’s, but I didn’t realize the main site directly links to yours for that. Great job on that Jeff:beer:

    Re: Krav Maga and CrossFit

I was quite certain today was the day to start Crossfit.

    Today is a rest day.

Joking aside, it has sounded like a fantastic system from the moment I first read a GardDawg post and had to look into it further.

    Re: Krav Maga and CrossFit

This is an interesting thread. If you do some googling, there are actually a couple of sites that seem to combine Crossfit and KM, such as these:

    http://www.crossfitculvercity.com

    http://www.fitandfearless.com

    http://www.crossfitbrandx.com

I think KM and Crossfit compliment each other well. Crossfit can give you an all around workout, improving strength and endurance, which is very helpful for doing KM. As for scheduling, if you’re in decent shape, I think it wouldn’t be a problem to do one hour of Crossfit and then one hour of KM or vice versa. If it’s too much, you could always alternate, do KM one day, then Crossfit the next.

Yup. We are the default for how to scale, as well as running the CrossFit Kids program. If I can interject a little regarding the kids, we are profoundly changing the way people look at what kids can do. The kids mag has run a really well researched article on weightlifting and kids and other topics of interest to kids and fitness. Plus our kids are blowing away the standard PT tests. Our next kids cert has people coming from the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Singapore, and the program is being run in school districts here and abroad as well.

As far as KM and CF you cannot forget One World and Freddy C. !

Just came across this page while researching stuff to prep a friend for a grappling tournament, thought I might as well toss it on this thread as discussions touch on this topic. Enjoy:

    Re: Krav Maga and CrossFit

    Nemo,
First, I only post here at the discretion of the admins, they can ban me anytime they like. I’m not an internet warrior. Although I have been a KM instructor for 7 years I rarely post regarding KM. There are others here who are far more knowledgeable. I post only regarding Strength and Conditioning; that I know about. One thing I want to make clear, if a person has any trouble with me, my gym address is all over the internet. I work out with the door unlocked and completely alone M-T-Th and Fri. at 2:00 p.m your always welcome to visit and take it up in person.

Here is where you and I disagree. First, you come on the board complaining that you are being over looked that you are better than others and should be tested. Been teaching the martial arts a long time. Have fought a lot of battles, had my doors open to take any challengers. Seen hundreds of guys who make that complaint. Only a hand full of guys had ability and a valid complaint, the rest were pissants and asswipes. So, after twenty years of teaching excuse me if you are one of the guys that has a valid complaint.

Secondly, your next post is tell every one what your recommendation is for working out, because you are an expert. Sorry we don’t know you. Can you show us some of the clients you have trained? Testimonials? Before and after pics. Establish some cred, spend some time on the board, before giving your advice.

Finally, regarding CF, you blast off while being totally ignorant of the system. Again the mainpage is simply an expression. If people only work off the main page they will do pretty well. Certainly better than visiting the local “Bally’s Total Waste of Time”. LOL Except Bally and Golds and… are all jumping on our bandwagon. What you fail to realize is there are thousands of CF Trainers across the country, who design programs based on the CF principles for individuals. While the principles regarding power lifting, O – lifting, gymnastics, plyometrics, traditional cardio, may be old, they were hardly combined in a program available to everyone before CF. Your attitude is just like the hundreds of guys who have come on this forum over the past few years and said they can design a system better than Krav Maga. All they have to do is take boxing, wrestling, escrima, Muay Thai, BJJ etc… and then get rid of the stuff that doesn’t apply to self defense. See how easy it is to create a great system?

    Re: Krav Maga and CrossFit

Hey, I dunno why you wanna go there again but OK.

First: I came on this board wanting input on the midterm subject and how mandatory midterms are holding people back. Me specifically, yes. I’m not quite sure why you’re telling me about when and where you are. For what reason? You wanna throw down? Is that some kind of challenge because I have somehow threatened your little niche here in cyberspace? I am not in your neck of the woods my man. If I ever am I may check out your gym and we can spar, sure.

Second: Am I am not an “expert” on how to work out (neither are you). I know more than the average bear and you can see that in my posts. People can take that for what they want. I am not hear to satisfy you or anyone else with my credentials, I’ll let my posts speak for themselves. People can take them or leave them. Your interest in what I say would suggest that they are valid. I am staying anon right now due to my initial post and my real job. That’s the way it is, take it or leave it.

Finally: I don’t believe I am ignorant on CF. It is a good system. I have said that already. I don’t however believe that it is the be all end all for combat sports. That can’t be that hard to understand… right?
