Re: Written accounts from Krav users on this site

Thanks for that link. I found one good story in there. Luckily the user managed to avoid conflict by utilizing his fighting stance and confidence.

Yeah that link was along the same lines of the stories I remember, but like you pointed out, they are not very detailed. And yes I am sure they are here somewhere I just don’t know how to find them.

    On a side note…

The story from that link about the wife reminds me of when I used to leave my BOB outside my bathroom in my house. It was stored there temporarily, just for a couple weeks, and I never became habituated to it. Every time when I opened the door of the bathroom with my head down or in the dark and was startled by BOB there I would immediatly go into my fighting stance and sometimes would start throwing a punch at his head… Krav instincts.

Re: commando krav to krav maga

I go to KM in Canton CT. It is a good school in my opinion. Their price is about $100-120 a month with some start-up fees. You can go as much as you would like and they offer a class every weekday but friday plus a sat. morning class. They also have morning classes during the week. Instructor to student ratio ranges greatly depending on what night. When I used to go to morning class there might be only 4 people there, but some night classes have had as much as 30, but usually around 20 I would say.

Try it out for free! It is really tricky to find (just the last turn, the rest is easy) so I would call/email ahead of time and get directions from them.

Re: Tactics for closing distance & engaging when sparring a taller opponent?

    quote leejam99:

over hand right should be your best friend. as he jabs, slip it to the inside while throwing a big looping overhand right at his face. Lot of taller people with a big reach often has a lazy jab because they think the opponents reach is not a threat which gives a great opening for an overhand right. They are also punching down at you which make it harder for them to cover there jaw with their shoulder. Make sure your left is up and covering your face. obvisouly after you land this, you don’t want that to be it. you need to followup with some more punches once your inside. maybe a livershot, hook to head than an uppercut. so the entire combo would be slip/overhand right, left(liver), left(hook to head), right uppercut. You can finish with a left round kick by either stepping out a bit or pushing your opponent to create some space for your kick.

Thanks, I will start working that combo on my bag and shadow boxing and see if it helps!

Re: Tactics for closing distance & engaging when sparring a taller opponent?

THANK YOU for posting this… I get creamed by the taller guys, and they always tell me to fight from the inside and move in close, unleash a flurry of attacks, then kick them and push off to create distance. But it is easier said than done.

Re: defense while seated in car?

Someone mentioned Brazil car crimes… I heard that recently they have been taking a pliers and clamping it down on people’s ears who are stopped with open windows. Then they order the person to give them their money, or wind up driving off looking like Van Gogh.
    Anyway…
I bet a pretty large percentage of violent crimes involve cars; makes sense then to have a system of defense for this unique position.

Re: Self defense/use of force taught in Krav

First, great posts; very helpful! Second:

“Though Krav can be lethal, the techniques use personal weapons (hands, feet, knees, etc), which are not considered to be lethal force. By using Krav, you’re not intending to kill, just stop the threat. An attorney would have a hard time arguing that you used lethal force unless you went overboard and continued to beat the person well after the threat was gone.”

I was under the impression that even kicking someone with a boot on is lethal force? I even thought that blows to the head can be lethal force?

Re: Self defense/use of force taught in Krav

Yeah, maybe they could even have a separate day and do it once or twice a year and have a LE agent come in for a day. I agree 10 minutes might snowball into taking up the whole class. Lets say someone pushes you, and they are way bigger than you, then you might be terrified, but they still only pushed you; are you then justified to use lethal force? I think a good lawyer would be able to easily prove that Krav falls under lethal force. That means that when you use Krav on someone you better be able to justify shooting them. I really like that idea of the LE spokesperson.

    Re: Failed level 1 test

    quote big_gene75:

LMAO @ russell!!!! To answer your question hammy48 – I am talking about the test to advance to level 2 Krav. But I will say after speaking with one of my instructors she mentioned that they will not even invite a student for testing unless they feel he/she is 100% ready. So the percent of students that fail are low due to the fact the instructors must both agree that person is ready for testing before he/she is allowed to test. Her saying that kind of explained a lot to me and also lets me know that once I receive the invite for testing the instructors actually see the progress and think I am ready for the next level.

Okay that is a great answer to my question, thanks! How many months (average, I know it probably varies drastically) does it take to get asked? I am going 3+ times a week and practicing with friends that do it with me on the side. I have a couple Krav books and can’t wait to start learning the level 2 moves.

Are you talking about the test to become a level 1 instructor, or the test to advance to level 2 Krav?

    Re: brand new, western MA

alright cool. That was basically what I wanted to know. yeah, duh! what criminal is going to assault a group of stronger guys by himself! I guess we prepare for reality. The only time that really happens is with thieves. They tend to be small (often drug addicts, and small and skinny because of it) and often steal from groups. Thanks again for the knowledge!

    Re: brand new, western MA

yeah, likewise. I had a hellll of a lot of fun at my first Krav lesson, and do not anticipate ever having to use it. I am going to college in a really bad part of a bad town. It is always nice to know that if something ever did happen to me or the people around me that I would be able to help.

    Re: brand new, western MA

thanks! That is basically what I thought… it is hard to run from the ground… even if you are on top and have surpassed their guard (so long as they are conscious!); and striking and then running seems to be the basic principal of Krav.
