I’m not sure what you’ve heard, but I’ve been training at Fightfit for about 6 years, and have no issue with any of the instructors there. As the school continues to grow they are bringing on new instructors through the normal “phase” process, and I’m sure as they gain experience some of their teaching skills will become more refined, but that being said I have seen no issue with how anything is taught.
If there is something specific you’ve heard feel free to send me a private message and I’d be happy to talk about it with you.

You’re training at Fight Fit, James? I train there as well….it’s a great place.

I can tell you that at our school as we are progressing to higher levels we are driven to throw punches/kicks in such a manner that if the defense is done incorrectly that the person will get hit. We’re certainly not throwing “hard” as we don’t want to hurt each other, but we ARE throwing at a relatively reasonable speed. We are also told to keep it realistic such that we are moving and coming from different distances, as opposed to just standing in one spot and firing punches like a robot.
I’ve been popped in the mouth a number of times when working inside defenses. It’s better in class than on the street, and if I’m not doing it right that is really the only way I will know.
In regard to Human Weapon, I think it’s hard to draw a parallel to a class like ours because we only see small pieces of longer lessons. I tend to think that particular elbow was a little “over the top” and was included because it made good TV.

Just found out…I PASSED!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!
I’m really relieved. I wasn’t sure. There were a few things I didn’t execute really well. So I was really sweating!
Thoughts from the test:
– Physically it wasn’t as tough on me as the level 1…perhaps I’m in better shape.
– The stopping kick defense without pads makes you walk like Fred Sanford in a short amount of time.
– One investing tip I’ve learned from Krav…If you can find an ice company, buy stock.
– Everytime I complete another test, I’m proud of the focus and effort it takes to get though it.OK..now back to icing the knees so I can get to my FIRST level 3 class tomorrow!!

The boxing game that comes on Wii Sports isn’t serious enough to use for any real training. It could get you arms tired, and you may get a little winded…maybe, but nothing more than that…
I’ve never used Wii Fit so i can’t help you in that regard.

-The co-worker that can’t walk by your office without staring in at you the whole time they are passing by
-That group of poeple…male OR female that have to stand for 20 minutes every morning and talk about their “social exploits” over the weekend loud enough for the company across the street to hear.
…and that one lady that cackles at 6,324 decibals at a joke, and then walks office to office re-telling it, and cackling each time.

Toughest part is not giving up….you’ll be sore and tired, and something will hurt. You’ll wan to quit…but don’t keep pushing yourself through it.

Looks like those attack vehicles that were on the Ewok planet in Return of the Jedi

July 30, 2008 at 2:46 pm #68552old-grapplerMemberRe: Drinking & Krav
I would say that what bar you choose to visit is far more important than going out to a bar for a few drinks. If you go to a bar that has 5 bouncers wandering around the room, obviously they must have trouble there regularly. Situational awareness should tell you that bar is not a place to hang out…drunk OR sober. Take care in choosing where and with whom you spend your time to minimize the risk of something bad happening.
My only other comment would be that part of Krav Maga’s philosophy is to assess where you’re at so that you have a way to get yourself out of harm’s way if required. Getting drunk to the point of not being very coherent would go against this philosphy. I brew my own beer, and have been known to quaff a few pints of ale, but I try very hard to manage those evenings so that if something happens I am not at a severe disadvantage. Remember we want to WALK in peace…not stagger.

Yes….using muscles that you generally don’t use too much.
July 15, 2008 at 8:25 pm #68067old-grapplerMemberRe: Need advice on groundwork
I found it very difficult the first few times, too. It got easier as I started to get the hang of it….and pounded out some ab workouts so that I could hold myself in the right position easier

I would guess it was more likely a headlock from behind…kind of like a “sleeper” hold. Somehow I can’t imagine some guy jumping out of bushes and choking someone with straight arms from behind….of course, there are plenty of stupid criminals out there just looking for a beating.:chair:

I have the Nut Buddy, and use it with compression shorts. It is a scomfortable an option as I have found.
