Re: 54 year old having trouble with intro class

    quote KMKY:

I have a level 2 student that will turn 60 this year. She goes at her own pace, which is slightly less intense than the pace for the rest of the class, but I’ve seen 18 year old kids want to quit and then look up, see she’s still going and the kids get back in the fight.

So follow the advice from catapult, cinnamongirl and KevinMack – go at your own pace, do your best and you will continue to improve. Besides, you could be the inspiration to others in your class.

I am the almost 60 year old student mentioned in this post. I think my instructor is correct, that I move at a slightly less intense pace than the rest of the class. However, some of them are just 18 years old. I started training at age 55.

Consider this–the 50’s are a good age to start working out hard. Friends who are younger than me are now suffering and dying from preventable diseases, such as certain heart problems. Some of my younger friends have already died. Krav Maga could save your life in more than one way. I am convinced that my relatively good health is partially due to Krav Maga. I am large as well, but my doctor says I am “fat but fit”.

Just move at your own pace and don’t worry about anyone else. The exercise alone is a great benefit.

    Re: Welcome -cmon Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone! I’ve been locked out of the forum because I couldn’t remember my password. The forum administrator fixed that.

Anyway, just to let you know–I passed my level 1 test in January and I’m now a level 2 fighter.

For those who think they are too old for Krav Maga–I will be 59 years old on Sunday.

It’s never too late to try something new.

    Re: Why Krav?

Well, thanks for the compliment! I am getting closer to passing my level 1 test. Mock test #3 is coming up soon. My problem is that I can’t seem to find time to work out between classes. With a job, and a busy social life, I find it hard to get to the gym. I won a free gym membership when I sent in an answer to the question “how do you stay fit” to our local newspaper. It seems our city was designated the laziest city in the country by “Men’s Health” magazine. The contest was to prove to this publication that some of our residents do exercise. I am saving my money for 4 sessions with a personal trainer whom I hope will help motivate me to get going.

    Re: Why Krav?

I am new to this blog. I am 57-years-old and a Krav Maga student. I am getting ready for my level 1 test .

I am the oldest person in my class, and my instructor says I am doing well, but I need to work on cardio. I feel good that I’ve made it this far in my class when most folks my age are beginning to have serious health problems.

I lost weight when I first starting taking Krav Maga, but that has leveled off now.I am not losing or gaining weight, but I do feel much better physically. When my weight loss stopped, I also lost motivation to push forward.

I go to Krav Maga class twice a week. Each class lasts about 60 minutes but is very intense.

Any suggestions in getting over the last hump so I can pass my test?

    Thanks for your help,
    Cathy

Do you have an email for this place? I couldn’t find one on the website, and the one I was given over the phone didn’t work. Thanks, Cathy B.

    Re: Welcome -cmon Introduce Yourself

Hello, I am a Krav Maga student in Lexington, KY. I’ll be in San Antonio July 1-6. I would like to take a couple of classes at the Krav Maga center there. Please help with directions and class schedule. I am a level 1 student, but I’ve bee in class for two years.

I am 56 years old, and I am healthy, but not as fit as others. I do need help with getting in shape so I can pass my test. Any help with diet and exercise would be appreciated as well.

Please feel free to email me off the message board.

    Thanks so much,
    Cathy Baker

    Stuck inside in KY

    Dear Krav friends,

I’ve been taking Krav lessons for almost a year, and at the current gym for 8 months. I am enjoying it very much.

I’ve been stuck inside in Kentucky for the last month. If you have seen any news about the ice storm, you can understand what’s happening here. Yesterday, we had high winds that caused some storm damage as well.

I’ve been keeping up the indoor routine–jumping jacks, pushups, jump rope, etc., that my instructor gave me. It has helped to keep up with the cardio, but I’m not losing weight right now.

I’ve battled a nasty cold all week as well. I sure hope the weather gets better so I can get back into walking.

My instructor did a class for a church group last week, and it went well.

How’s everyone else coping with the winter weather?

    Re: I’m new here

    Dear friends,

I’m new to Krav Maga–I’ve been taking lessons since July. I have already gained loads of self-confidence. Even if I never have to use it, the psychological benefits I’ve gained to this point are priceless.

My generation of women was not allowed to participate in team/group sports. I missed Title IX by one year. I graduated from high school in 1971 and Title IX passed in 1972.

Growing up, so many activities were considered “not lady-like” that some of us females became passive doormats. There were so many rules put on us by our mothers that being assertive was difficult.

Krav Maga has already helped me get over my shyness in speaking up for myself.

Thanks to my instructor Kevin for his help.

    With gratitude,

    Cathy :wav:
