Re: Huge variation in KMWW, the ones I’ve been to SUCK. But you might be lucky.

This guy is a troll, but I echo his sentiments. I recently moved, and tried three different KMWW locations (well 2 actually, one just joined IKM), and found that their training tactics and their difficulties were extremely varied. I decided I liked one way better than the other two, and now go there even though it’s way out of my way. The two I didn’t like didn’t even do those interesting stress drills that we all love so much (like lights out, many vs 1, determination, eyes closed, loud music…etc). And all three are less “hardcore” than the place I went to before, by varying degrees.

This is to be expected though. Everyone has their own style of teaching, and their own techniques, just like say… college professors. And although KMWW is there to standardize things, that doesn’t mean that their standardized ya know what I mean? Hell, I work at a place where we have a forum you have to fill out that specifically says you need to write the date in a certain way, and almost everyone writes it different.

Re: Taking KM Training to the next Level.

How about telling us what you’re currently doing? What’s your schedule look like in terms of training? 3 times a week for an hour? 4 times a week? Whats up man?

or that metal electrical thing down there (not sure what that was, but lots of metal rods and such).

You mean the bottomless mechanical/electrical pit that is standard issue in all sci-fi movies? Always a favorite of mine.

    quote Rottngirl:

No disrespect to Karate, but had she been a black belt in Krav, the guy probably wouldn’t have gotten up and been able to run off,

Lol, yea. That guy would be destroyed once he hit the ground. Though, I suppose live and let live is good too.

    Re: Heavy Bag advice

Yea I like the wavemaster XXLs. Easy to roll around, and sturdy and all that jazz. Just kinda expensive.

Re: Fight Science 2 on the National Geographic Channel

Nice, I hope it’s two men (one who is a former MMA fighter, and the other an amateur with some martial arts background) travel the world in search of different fighting styles where they train for a week and then fight a real master in the art.

Re: Halp, I’m being attacked. Oh wait I have keys.

    quote Giant Killer:

Hmmm, why use the keys if the actually brass knuckle is your key chain? :):

How about taking a bunch of keys (or quarters if you have them) into your hand and then punch the guy? Would the additional weight cause greater damage to the opponent?

No, probably not. Because force is equal to mass times velocity squared. Which means that if you had a choice, you would want to make your fists move faster, instead of making them heavier. If the quarters weighed down your hand a little bit, the effects could be offset because you moved slower.

This is one of the reasons amateurs, and people sparring, use heavier boxing gloves. And then real fights have lighter ones.

    Re: Belt testing and advancement

I don’t know Giant, that’s like asking all Karate or Judo dojo’s to be able to certify you to Grandmaster. Obviously you can only learn up to the teacher’s rank.

The idea that the teachers must commit to learning is a good one, but that’s a contract of years… and it’d be hard to enforce. Why didn’t you test for the next level? Was it because you need more time? Or was it because you’re not “committed”.

I think a more realistic way is to require new certified school owners to be of a certain rank.

Re: need to loose a lot of weight pretty quickly

Okay, since I’m the first one here I’m goin to tell you what everyone else is goin to tell you.

    A) It’s impossible to loose weight quickly without rebounding and gaining it back.
    B) You don’t want to loose “weight” you want to loose “fat”. Because my friend, you don’t want to be a skinny weak guy. You want to be cut, tone, trim… you know what I’m talking about. It’s very possible you lost 2 lbs of fat per week, and gained 1lb of muscle. But if you don’t measure your percentages, you’d never know and you’d think you were failing when you were actually being very sucessful.

PM me, I have something for you to read that I think you’ll like. But as far as the Atkin’s diet goes… it certainly works. But like most diets, 95% of people on it fail. I didn’t make up that statistic either, it’s in this literature I’ll give you. You start to crave carbs because you’re starving and apparently only 1 out of 20 people have the willpower. I certainly didn’t.

    Re: Belt testing and advancement

Well, there are LOTS of KM associations, and probably some rogue teachers out there. I have seen places that use belts. Maybe I can find one.

    Re: Is this Krav ?

In terms of chin, it’s kind of easy to miss and hit him in the mouth. Where you’d probably cut your hands on his teeth. On the side, on the jaw might be a better target, I also believe it’s easier to do damage there. But “is it krav”? Sure.

I personally love attacks to the throat, and am currently on this kick to try to train them to make them instinctive.

Re: Defense against bag over head from behind?

Yea, I could see ripping from top to bottom. Is it possible to do though if the bag is being held skin tight against you? You’d probably scratch yourself pretty hard if you could get it off, though if it worked… better than being suffocated to death.

And yea, I always think in horror movies “Seriously, how hard is it to see someone in the back of your car?” But then there’s always on the bus, or at a restaurant, where you’d be more vulnerable.
