Re: Choke from behind with pull

    quote tzrider:

In my classes, it’s rare to have a partner who really applies what you’d call a choke. It’s more like a shoulder massage. I have to remind partners to grip my neck rather than shoulders. With their hands on my shoulders, I physically cannot pluck their hands and I don’t need to, as they can’t hang on anyway. When they do actually grip my neck, the technique makes some sense.

You are right, people today not trainig with reality, we must simulate like have you benn at street with some assailant, for people more experienced must training hard and strenght, if you are weak your partner dont know if technique results or not….

    Re: ridiculous prices

Here at Portugal I think is not very expensive , I pay 2 times per week , each class is 1.5 hours training and sometimes about 2 hours and it is
    € 25/Month. Not bad at all.:abx:

That’s my thinking too. I mean it drive me nuts when folks compare Krav to MMA. They’re out to advance. We wanna get home to our families 🙂

I agree, dont compare what have no comparasion, no rules is to do anything to survive, biting, spitting and even escape, but one thing very, very important in a conflict with a thug, and that element is SURPRISE, never show to your opponent that you know something about fight, your own position, your hands , your legs, you must show him fear , submission, and he cames to attack you , and before he gets you, you must attack with all power to the groin, eyes, throat, you can not give a second chance to him, he may be better than us on fight or have a knife or a gun in his pocket and you are death….:Deadhorse:

    Re: Why Krav?

    quote grizz8006:

I work diff types of Security and was working in a bar one night in a bad area. When I had 2 guys fighting when I walked over I notice he kept trying to go for something. He lifted up his shirt enough for me to realize it was a knife. I was able to disarm him and remove all the threats but really had me thinking about my line of work. I read about Krav Maga somewhere on line and was hooked! I can’t imagine life without it mostly because it has saved me a few times. I also work for a law office when people are in the middle of getting divorced I can go on the womens behalf to collect her court ordered property. Its very scary because alot of the men and even few women were abusive in the relationship , and I am now alone in a house with them while they are angry!

    Hi Grizz8006

I am just gonna make a comment about the knife, if you are an ordinary citizen and if someone pull a knife to you, you would better run if you don’t want to die.
There are no answer to knife attack, most of them happens rapidly and sometimes you don’t see the knife, if you see a knife in a hand of a thug, run, is the first rule, if you are a law officer, policeman, the thug pull a knife and it would better you shot him down imediatly, if not, you are dead.
There are some videos on youtube that police were stab by a thug because they didn’t shot suddenly, if the guy runs to you completely crazy with a knife in his hand, if the distance was close, you have great difficulty shot him down until you gonna hurt first, I have no doubt ,for me is the scariest weapon, more than a fire gun, most of the people think that is easy disarm a knife, try to pull out the knife on you and run but never try to disarm the knife, just in ultimate case and when there is no alternative, and prepare to many cuts. My opinion.

    Re: Why Krav?

    quote StanMc:

    Why Krav?

I’m 47 and not getting any younger. I had been thinking for years about learning some type of self defense. I heard about Krav Maga a few weeks ago and decided now is the time. I have no interest in doing flying kicks or breaking boards. If attacked I want to be able to quickly and effectively neutralize the attacker and get away. That’s it for me.

    Hi StanMc
Krav Magá is for all people and for all ages, as ImI Lichtenfeld said “ Do what you can but do it well”.I am 45 years old and is not a problema at all, when you are talking about high kicks, forget that, in self defense dont exist high kicks, it is a myth, dont work on the street, when you are training with a large pants if you have some gymnastic of course you can beat with a high kick, but when you are on street you wear a tight pants, like jeans, and you can not strike above the belt, because of that and because most of the street fight it is in a close distance and most of the time end on the ground…

Re: Is Rank Important to You?

krav Magá have no rules, is an art of personnal defense, for this reazon I think belts are not appropriate, but is my oppinion and worst nothing, when people like, and train a lot, people envolve, get better, I have no doubt, but I respect who are with the system, no problem at all.

Re: Why the hate for KM?

    Hi people

It is a relevant question, Krav Magá is not a sport combat modality as Muay Tai or Boxe is not a martial art neither a sport combat .
There is a big problem on sport combats and martial arts in general, they have rules, they do not training for instance, bites, grabs to the groins, strike the eyes or throat, and in my opinion one the most important things, the avaliation of a situation.
In Krav Maga sometimes the best solution is run away, a roundhouse situation , you can be very good on MT ou BJJ but if the opponent are five or six you will be serious injury or even killed in the middle of confusion by a stab, perhaps you must strike one or two times to find a route to scape, sometimes fight is not the best solution for us, cemetery are full of heroes.
One of the Krav Magá base is prevention, other combat sports don’t have that skill, for them it doesn’t matter and don’t assess well the situation and sometimes goes wrong.
I am an open mind in relations martial arts, you can not forget that Krav Magá techniques are techniques of Boxe, MT, BJJ, Grapplins and so on, that is the true, several techniques that result on the street because Krav Magá was born on street fight.
When I am training Krav Magá I also train (of course) many techniques of boxe and MT, the diference are that people who train MT,BJJ or boxe or other sport combat do not train knife, stick or fire gun and when a thug put a knife on throat at a guy practicing Muay Tai, what he do ? nothing !!!! because he don’t train that situation, he have no answers to that challenge ,MT is good to fight in middle/long distance like Karate, so, I don’t agree people say Krav Magá is no good because is a non sense, Krav Magá is all, is MT, BJJ, Boxe, Grappling and other letal techniques that result on personnal defense, I think people say Krav Magá is no good perhaps don’t know the real Krav Magá, just my opinion.Sorry my bad English…

    Re: Overhead Stick Defense Explained.

    quote KevinMack:

and thats my point exactly. I hate writing on my iPad so I will just write these in a series of points.

    – First..despite the fear od violence from terrorism israel is a relatively safe country to live in. Violent crime is rather low. Compare the violent crime rate of that entire country to the city of Philadelphia which has over 200 murders a year. Philly is connected by bridge to Camden,NJ which has the 2nd highest crime rate in the US. This doesnt include the surrounding towns. The violent crime rate of just this city far exceeds the crime rate of their entire nation.

    – Israelis have a totally different idea of civic responsibility than Americans. For instance an Israeli told me that its is the responsibilty of a citizen to offer a ride to a soldier if they see him walking. It is a shame not to. Israelis welcome strangers into their homes on a regular basis. It is part of their culture.

    – This also applies to their approach to self defense and counter terrorism. Citizens are taught and expected to swarm and try to retrains a terrrorist in the case of a suicide bomber or attacker whether they are law enforcement or not. It is the idea of losing one or two lives to save hundreds. They also teach this to kids in Israel in active shooter scenarios. You can not get away with this approach in the US for liability reasons and due to our philosophies. No school will allow you to come in and teach their kids to try and attack a terrorist in their school. Yet what saved the lives of many students at Virginia Tech?

    – Even the IKMF approach to LE is different there than here. Gabi Noah came to my school and we did some training with cars. He was showing some things to a LE student of mine that involved Israeli LE tactics. He showed that in Israeli during a traffic stop of a suspect one officer approaches the drivers side window while one stands directly in front of the car with his gun drawn. When my students asked why he stood in front as he saw it as a dangerous place to be…he asked “what if if the driver starts to drive forward or tries to run the officer down”…Gabi said we just shoot him. The car moves we shoot. My student was like we can not do that in the US at least in our department.

So while the techniques work in Israel their mindset and cultural responsibilities are very different than Americans in all aspects of live and even self defense.

I agree, Israel is other culture, culture of violence, you must remember Imi went to Israel 1940 to training militarys that fight against Palestinians, so they are accustomed to violence and they must survive, all women goes to the army, every police or military train Kav Magá, so they must be hard but is not a nice country to live, peace is very weak there, I think will never be peace in middle orient, unfortunately !!!!:(:

Thats cool Kiddon and I am joined the KMG group on Facebook too and my UK club is called the Institute of Krav Maga.

I do find it really interesting to come on here and to hear about other codes of Krav Maga as I would guess it’s not massively different to ours.

One day I will hopefully train with Eyal himself…

Re: Training course: switch partner ?

As already stated it is clear that you have advantage training with several partners because for the same menace you must have a different defense if your opponent is larger or smaller, and to training your body for a diferent response too.

    Re: Why Krav?

    quote CelticKM:

    A few reasons really:

I got to second brown in karate in my teens and I never felt I would win in an actual fight. Maybe I was rubbish but it didnt seem useful for the real world.

    I wanted to get fit.

    I wanted a hobbie.

KM sounded like the most useful for the possible situations I may get into.

I’ll be honest about this last one, I thought it sounded quite cool compared to MA’s.

Hi Celtic, our team are with Krav Maga Global too…facebook, krav maga global portugal (KMG-PT), last February we have a stage with Eyal Yanilov about disarm gun fire…
