Re: Looking for a Good Supplement to Krav

You will find Muay Thai much more fun than Boxing. MT is far more interesting because you can throw tons of other strikes. Boxing is not really that fun. Plus MT sparing tends to focus more on light timing. Why boxing gyms can get pretty heated and hardcore.
The best MT fighters on the planet do more timing than hardcore sparing. I would look into MT.

    Re: Judo in KM?

Every time I read the Judo boards under Sherdog or something. It is amazing the high level of injuries that students receive. The most important thing is to have fun and not get injured. To do Judo , you really have to be hard core or just reckless. Tearing up my knees or shoulder would not be worth it.
Judo people tend to have bad bodies by middle age. Nothing about Judo is gentle.

    Re: Krav Maga for kids?

I think KRav would be terrific for kids. They learn all kinds of practical skills. I would not have your kids in more dangerous martial arts like Judo or Boxing. At least Krav is mostly safe on the body and head.

Re: Never in a fight before.

IF you want to test yourself. Then do some sparring then !!!!Dont be sizing people up. Size is very deceptive. I know this 110 pound kid, who is the best in my Thai class and I would never want to mess with him.

Re: Never in a fight before.

No reason to ever be in a fight unless you are backed against a wall with no other options. If you win the fight, most likely you will be in jail or sued. If you lose the fight, most likely you will be facing a huge medical bill.
Best to just avoid toxic people and places and your chances will go down 80 percent. Also dont get mad if somebody cuts you off driving or bumps into someplace. Last week some guy just bumped into me and I ignored it. Big deal.

Re: I can’t kick above the waist!

I have good body kicks because of Muay Thai. Those would cause some real serious damage in a fight.
The French savate kick to the knee is good too. Also the heel kick to the groin is good one. Very easy to use from rear bear hug.

    Re: Beginners’ Injuries

Tufk, you dont need to go to the max. You should only go at a moderate level. Go with training partners you feel comfortable with. They were a few guys that were very big and strong and will always act like spazes. I simply avoided being their partners.
Be aware of your body’s limitations and dont push beyond it. You will stay injury free

    Re: Beginners’ Injuries

I always make sure my fingers are out of the way holding any pads.

You want injuries just read about what Judo guys have to go through. No martial arts in even close to Judo. I would be terrified of Judo lol. Wrestling would be second.

During my time in Krav. I injured my arm for 3 months during those Judo throws. I have avoided any high level class that has throws since then.
OTher than that, just get a few cuts from people who dont clip their finger nails. They usually occur during that “circle of life” drill. Almost always from a women lol

Re: Are the curriculums similar in all Krav organ

Since none of the major organizations have any communications. I imagine the curriculums will continue to look more and more different. It will be like Karate or Kung Fu very soon. Each Karate school has its techniques vastly different.

Re: Has there been a decline?

I have no interest in MMA at all. I am too old and dont care for boxing and wrestling that much. Most MMA gyms are boxing and wrestling mixed together.

I think Krav is great that is gives you all kinds of tools for people and weapons. Krav will not win you any titles or trophies but it will save your life.

Re: Has there been a decline?

Yes my level 2-3 class has decreased by about 3/4th this year. Usually we only have 4-5 people now.
Most people just want to learn the basics very quickly and get out. I plan on continuing Krav until the fall. Then I will move on as well. I think after 4 yrs plus I have learn enough for me. Majority of students do not stay more than 9 months in Krav Maga. In my MT class it seems to be under 6 months.

YES, MMA tends to attract a different type of person. Usually younger in 20’s and more aggressive types. They tend to want to compete now or later.

Re: Looking for a Good Supplement to Krav

I am planning to try this cool BJJ foundation class nearby this summer.

Right now i do Krav and MT and tennis. But I am probably older than you and can only handle so much on my body.
I would avoid Judo as the injures are pretty scary.

Re: Looking for a Good Supplement to Krav

Is your goal self defense and hobby or do you want to compete in MMA.

You could look into BJJ or Muay Thai class along with Krav.

    Re: Bad Sparring

Sorry to hear this. Terrible instructor to allow this.

I would avoid the sparing classes if people were just spazzing out with no regard to safety.

In my Muay Thai class we only go lightly so that way everybody has fun and can learn.

Bear?? Were you able to start a new martial arts since what happen to you yet??

Again sparing classes should be controlled and if that is not happening I would not go to them. Instructor sounds like an idiot.
