    Re: Unusual Valentine’s Day gifts

Heh..I got my Valentines Day Gift early. My wife and I were practicing with focus mitts on combinations and I was pushing her for putting her hip more into her right cross. You guessed it…black eye for me lol. At least she got more power….

Re: Krav in Orange County, CA

I might be a little biased here, but Alan and the crew from 360 Combat are awesome. I have been training there since November and the instructors pay great attention to the training of their students and make it fun and challenging at the same time. The instructors even go the extra mile with free seminars and fitness test type classes. Not only do you get in better shape and learn to defend yourself but Krav is awesome for confidence. Never will regret my choice of Krav and the team at 360 Combat.

    Re: Stand Up Bag

I am looking into this myself so I am pretty interested in what the community can add. I am trying to stay in the $100-$150 range(2 girls in college is killing me right now lol)

    Thanks,

Re: Pulled lat muscle or bruised rib?

No problem man. I tend to stretch the intercostals quite a bit during KM training. Make sure you warm up with twisting type stretches before and it helps a lot.

I grew up in Tucson man(I was a Badger)..maybe its the heat 🙂

Re: Pulled lat muscle or bruised rib?

Could be that you aggrivated your intercostal muscles underneath your lat. I do this on occassion during twisting type movement like combinations with elbows and such. Your lat is a huge, strong muscle and it takes quite a bit to bruise but the intercostals can get sore very easily. The fact that they hurt when you breathe is the dead give away because they are the muscles that contract to move your rib cage.

I would just suggest frequent stretching. They heal on the pace with your abdominal muscles so unless you go get xrays and do find a bruised rib(did you have contact specifically in that area?) I wouldn’t worry unless the pain is prolonged. Can be sore up to 5 days but normally heal even under stress.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Huge variation in KMWW, the ones I’ve been to SUCK. But you might be lucky.

What exactly is your complaint here?

You want to take KM but don’t live close enough to NTC or SO? Meaning you want a better option than the gyms you have access to?

You watch your friend at his training and complain about lack of sparring in 3/4 in his particular training regimen. Are you currently taking KM? If not, it takes awhile to get to that level so worrying about it now is kind of moot.

Are you more interested in MMA type training or just KM?

You might want to be more specific with your complaint and it might be easier to get some honest help, because from your post it is difficult to figure out what the issue is

Re: Fight Quest ñ Grove Multi Attacker Scene

I would be willing to bet they didn’t tell the actor what was actually going to happen because I doubt he would subject himself to that type of abuse.

I think she was using the tv opportunity to prove a point but the only point it put across for me is that they are doing nothing but hurting the KM image and disgracing themselves.

Re: Fight Quest ñ Grove Multi Attacker Scene

Great post Sean and even better analysis. I wasn’t sure what the whole point of changing the rules for the actor was. It isn’t going to help his confidence or aggression to put him in a position to fail when his only way to win is actually maim, cripple, or otherwise hurt the attackers. If you are in a trainer scenario that then turns into a full self defense situation(fear and possibility of bodily harm) it would pretty difficult not to flip that switch and increase the chances of injury. I think it was just a bad siutation all together but at what point do you just REALLY defend yourself when you do not have the option os getting away from the situation.

I know when we train here we KNOW the objective isn’t to hurt each other but this scenario was past that I think and I felt almost ashamed that this was a portrayal of KM in a public forum.

Re: Martial Artist- my style is better than yours

    quote unstpabl1:

He probably has been on the net and everyone was bashing his art. Most people bash tkd with impunity these days. Then they make a bigger mistake and bash korean arts in general. Problem is its not the system but the focus of the instruction. Kenpo as a system is probably a better deeper system than krav but that street focus seems to have disappeared in most schools. Its that focus that makes krav a great system.

Judos that way. most people don’t realize how much judo impacted WWII combatives. WWII combatives impacted krav as thats what the English taught the Jews to fight the Germans. Yet now judo is mostly taught as a sport and self defense tech aren’t taught till Black belt

The guy will either love krav or think its too simple. Basic. Either way doesn’t matter. Why would you wan’t him to know what you know? You 2 best buddies could be fighting over some girl tomorrow.rofl2

Well both of us are married, but I would win out because he is a big ugly mug. 🙂

I am looking forward to having a good partner to train with once we get him hooked lol.

Re: Martial Artist- my style is better than yours

Well believe it or not he was usually my sparring partner in boxing in the USMC and I have never been able to actually hurt the guy. We also horse around play wrestling and stuff like normal guys and because of his shear size my attacking him is usually not effective. For me to put him on the ground and be away in a follow-up attack posture freaked him out lol.

The effectiveness is what made the turn for him I think.

    Re: Best Intro Class?

I am not sure what you mean by an intro class. When I went to look at my gym the initial discussions were great and had a very practical approach. I just jumped into a lvl 1 class and it was awesome!! I wasn’t sure what to expect but I have to say what really grabbed me is how much report the instructor had with the students, that they pushed everyone but were quick to make sure the new people could keep up and participate. I actually had to stop my first class but it had me hooked because almost every student came up and told me the first time was always like that and reinforced that even if I was new I was welcome.

I think more than the drills or the warmup or any of that stuff, the new person needs to feel included and not overwhelmed. It becomes a family sort of and thats what makes people come back and motivates them to train even away from class. The instructor and the atmosphere were the hook for me and the material is gravy.

    I hope that helps

    Re: New to Krav

I would also add don’t be afraid to ask a question. Everyone is there to help you and will help you. I have learned so much from having helpful corrections from my partners, not just the instructor. You make KM your own in the process so don’t be afraid to ask.

Groin protection definately(the groin is a major target) and mouthpise is great just in case.

    You will have fun..

    Good ideas Jeff.

I am taking him to class on Saturday with me. He is pretty anxious and said he might start with me and drop his TKD. Our instuctor, Erik, is kinda brutal on Saturday mornings 🙂

He is a beast but a damn good guy and great friend. I have no doubt he will have fun and make the transition to the darkside 🙂
