Re: Krav Maga modifications
I won’t litigate techniques or “qualifications” on an internet forum, I’ll only say that our students are taught “pressures” from day one. Students wrestle from the very beginning, and by the time there is a knife involved, they have a very good understanding of the prevailing pressures and sensitivities that are present. These moves and movements have been performed thousands of times, against actual resistance, before weapons are introduced.
As I stated previously, analyzing an entire system from a two minute video that is designed as a review for instructors is likely not the most prudent but to each his own. All the best in your training.

No, no, no! Absolutely no offense at all.
Take care, all!

My inbox has blown up regarding this. It’s a KMW forum, so this will be my only comment: the video is a two minute reference for instructors, taken out of an entire curriculum, a curriculum that is integrated and progressive.
I’m easy to reach outside of this forum should anyone choose to do so. All the best in your training.

I’m not sure how you got that out of what I said. Maybe I didn’t articulate well, but I certain value the benefits of a fight program.

I agree with Don and Stafford, but I don’t think an instructor should be training while running a class.

Reach out to Wayne Miller at Fit and Fearless. I can tell you all you want to know about Fit to Fight, but he can tell you more about the specific program there in Austin. You can also email me at [email protected].
All the best!

Charlie, it depends on where you train, as far as your Fit to Fight “eligibility”. Different centers run it differently. Where do you train?

Anything by Geoff Thompson.

Regarding the women’s book, much of the info is the same/similar (again, the attacks are what they are, as are the defenses.) However, we address some modifications, some different attacks/contexts and add chapters/sections which are more relevant to women.
Hope you’re well, MJ.

I’m not sure how you could think one was a copy of the other. The first 70 or so pages are completely new, all of the techniques have considerably more detail (analyzing the attack, the immediate danger, any secondary dangers, solutions, counterattacks, key points and FAQs) and the groundfighting section is expanded. The “complete” book is a good reference for folks that are relatively well-versed in the material but lacks many details. For me, the beginner book is the best of the series, and I’d encourage instructors to really know and understand the details presented in it.
The material is what it is. The techniques are what they are. I’m not sure what you were looking for in the books.

Rod, I just spoke with him Friday. This still does not seem real to me, and during my last trip to Lugano, Thierry spoke highly of you. This will be posted on our site soon:
Dear Fit to Fight and Krav Maga Family,
On July 14, 2011, we lost a very close and dear member of our family. Thierry Viatour was the director of Krav Maga Worldwide in Europe. He was also instrumental in bringing Fit to Fight to Europe and was one of our greatest supporters. We when decided to form a “partnership”, it was done at dinner, with a handshake. I somehow knew that was enough, and I was right. Both systems were greatly influenced by Thierry and saw tremendous growth through his leadership. We could/cannot thank him enough for believing in us and our “direction”.
For me, personally, he was a great friend. Though I did not know him nearly as long as I would have liked, I spent a good deal of time with him during two trips last year (much of that due to a volcano.) He was energetic, passionate and articulate. He (and Larissa) were tremendous hosts, and I very much enjoyed spending time with him. I was ecstatic to find someone that was willing to think outside of the box, admit flaws in certain ways of thinking and commit to change when deemed necessary. It was truly refreshing and spoke volumes of him as a leader. I spoke with Thierry just last week…this still does not seem real to me.
The world lost a good man today. He had done many great things and touched many people, but I strongly believe he had much more to still give the world.
I lost a good friend. In a very short time, he quickly became a member of our family. I looked forward to a long friendship. That will have to wait…
I miss you, my friend,
Ryan

NOTE: I’m posting this at Darren’s request…
“I rarely ever post; however, if you are training in Krav Maga with ANY legitimate organization, that organization will always focus on improvement and changes that will result in building students for street survival, period. The number one priority is to make people more safe during a variety of violent confrontations. It has never been about sticking with techniques merely because they originated with Imi or during his era.
Imi saw the future. Examine every approach and improve..that’s all Imi ever stressed to us. That’s all Imi ever wanted. It was NEVER about Imi. Imi was always clear…the system must be ever evolving and flexible. To that extent, he openly welcomed improvement and created an environment where his top cadre of instructors felt comfortable to be creative and to institute changes in order to make people more safe, that’s it-it’s that simple.”

No worries!
I’d love to see that fight. Anyone in the area that’s able should definitely check it out.

That’s actually Peter Consterdine kicking. GT is in the video, but he’s not the one kicking.
