    Re: Gun Advice??

    quote Miriam:

Lucky – or unlucky for me, depending on how you see it – is that the configuration of my apt is one, long rectangle with the living room at the front and my bedroom all the way in the back. While there are two doors to my place (front and a side one off the laundry/service porch area), there’s only one way into my bedroom, which is down a long hallway. Off of the hallway, there are three other rooms. Therefore, if I heard something and thought I had an intruder, I sure as heck wouldn’t institute any kind of sweep and shoot inspection, since the person could leap out from any of the other rooms. I’d just call 911 and wait… and if I end up getting a gun, I’d have it loaded and aimed the door. I don’t believe there is a serious danger of being surprised by someone breaking in through the windows in my bedroom. They are glass loeuvers (those old things from the 50s or 60s that tilt open and closed). While they may be easier to get into in terms of being able to force them open, actually getting IN beyond that would require either sliding a number of the panes out or breaking them to create enough space to fit a body through. It couldn’t be done silently, and if I was home, I’d hear ’em coming. As would my 2 guard and attack cats.

Hmmm…. almost feel like I can navigate my way through your apt already. Would those guard cats be domesticated or on loan from SF Zoo?

You know… questionable behavior in trying out different… Ahhh, yes. Now that was certainly a fundamental flaw in my response to you, wasn’t it? How absolutely silly of me!

:Surprised::OhMy: ooooops!!! TMI, huh? My bad. But since you asked, and for the benefit of any other potentially interested, viewing party, yes, my cats are on loan from the SF zoo. And no sling shots are needed to rouse them into attacking b/c I always keep ’em on the hungry side.

p.s. I enjoyed meeting your girls today… they are SO adorable! Have you and Jarret discussed arranged marriages with his boys yet?

Yeah Mike the M&P is a good gun. It has good ergonomics and one of the best features is that you can change the grip size with the included backstrap inserts. I don’t like how the trigger pull feels when it comes from the factory but that can be fixed. It’s not bad, just not as crisp as I’m used to on my other guns. Anyway brand new it is definitely more cost efficient than a Glock and most other polymer framed handguns. Funny you mentioned the Sigma. I remember when it first came out the joke was” Sigma the Bastard gun…for those that couldn’t afford a Glock”. It really didn’t shoot that bad but I didn’t much care for it.

i called it the glockma,it was so close to the glock that the mag’s would interchange!,but i guess that’s why glock sued smith and won

    Heres my concern about thatÖ

Although my girls are still young, I have been working on my pre-date speech that the little punk boys who wanna date my girls are gunna receive from me. Initially I was going to sit with them and share an orange or something and cut it with a meat cleaver as we discussed what they would do on their date with my daughters (ok stole that from the Cosby show). Recently Iíve been thinking it might be cool to simply share some U-Tube videos of Krav Maga while wearing my instructorís shirt, discussing how easy it is to cause great pain too, well, I dunno for exampleÖ a young person who may wanna touch my daughter the wrong way. :dunno:

Here is the problem. A) Itís probably their father in the video. B) By then they will have been training with their father for many years and will giggle at the video. C) How the hell do I get pissed of at the kids father and confront him, knowingÖ wellÖ did I mention who was in the video?

so here’s my question not being a parent:dunno: You got “THE SPEECH” all prepared and deliver it with authority. And the courteous young man looks up at you and says Mr. P, you have it backwards sir. Its not me, its your daughter:OhMy:;):

Men get such a bad rap. Gotta stick up for the hometeam. We’re not all pigs. Now if you’ll excuse me its time to surf pornrofl2

R – no offense to your protective prowess, but I think your girls can totally handle their dating safety issues. Having been a teenage girl myself (oh so many years ago), it doesn’t take much to intimidate a dorky teenage boy away from any untoward acts. And since each daughter probably already knows how to plant a solid knee, they’d have no problem deflating unwanted advances! rofl2

Ehhhh… by the time his boys would be dating your girls, Jarret will have worn himself out with too many crazy-ass flying kicks, and be so old and creaky and slow, you’ll have nothing to worry about! (Jarret told me he doesn’t read these forums so…)

I would only add that the OP should also consider how to secure the weapon when it is left home alone. For some nightmare scenarios, consider coming home to find your weapon has been stolen, or worse, the perp is still there, pointing it at you (and whoever is with you). Bad, bad stuff.

every year during KM summer camp, you have the chance to train at ITTS school with Scott Reiz..amazing instructor..

I was with GK when we did the 2 trainings with ADE at burro canyon, it was great and we should do it again..nothing like hot brass and gun powder early in the morning 🙂

oh yeah for guns, I prefer Glocks: very easy to use and no safety to play with…have a look at the G21SF if you like .45 power.

other than that shotgun Rem 870 with buckshots….but be ready for the recoil..:)

    Re: Gun Advice??

    quote vwr32:

Tactically, you’re right that it’s probably *safest* for the gun owner to remain holed up in the bedroom until the police arrive. Realistically, I doubt most people will leave loved ones to fend for themselves elsewhere in the house in the event of a break-in, or call the police every time they hear a bump in the night. At some point, (we each have our own stories), people will *think* they’ve heard something… but not sure enough to dial 911. They can’t just sit there in ambush all night waiting for the bad guy to enter the kill zone. I don’t think it’s too far outside the realm of possibility that once people have convinced themselves the noise was ‘probably nothing’, it’s time to go make sure and they’ll bring along any weapon at their disposal.

Sorry.. I’ve been without internet for a while so I’m at work using their internet thumbsup. Anyways… I have a large amount of tactical experience on both defense and clearing buildings/rooms. I’ve taught these tactics and used them countless times. That being said, when I hear something in the middle of the night that gets me suspicious, I don’t head down the hall to my roomates room. I grab my weapon, get myself quietly positioned in the corner of my room, aim at the “fatal funnel” (doorway), and wait to see, hear, or smell anything else out of the ordinary. The reason being that clearing through a building is one of the most dangerous things you can do. Doing it with one person and no deversionary devices will ALWAYS open you up to potentialy being engaged by someone tucked away in a corner waiting for you before you know they’re there. The advantage remains in the defense, so why would you hand it over to someone else?

If we go up there now (to Burro Canyon), we could probably practice shooting in four feet of snow… Or shooting while skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling. thumbsup

Or we can wait for the snow to melt and go again in the spring/summer to refresh our memories.
