Re: "Warrior" Krav-Maga. Is it KMW?

I stopped training in Krav a few years back and haven’t been on the forum in sometime. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I started training KMW at a ATA school in GA. At that time, the instructors had gone to CA and got certified by KMW. They did not use their ATA Taekwondo belt system when I trained with them. They used the KMW system for level promotions. We did not wear belts in Krav class. Like I said, its been a while since I’ve trained in Krav, I don’t know if they’ve changed or not.

    Re: Krav in Orlando

It’s sad. I moved to Orlando (Kissimmee) almost 7 years ago. I had just passed my level-3 at my last Krav school in GA. After training at a Victory school for a couple months, I was so disapointed I quit. Trained in CKM for a while and had to stop there too. There are very good Krav schools in the Tampa area, butt to far fro me to travel. I kept hoping someone would start a good Krav school closer to me, but, to my knowledge, it hasen’t happened yet. And now at 71 years old with a total hip replacement DEC 2011, I would probably have a tuff time training anyway.

Re: Choosing a Krav School in Tampa, Florida

    ChipKrav,
Another school you might consider. Tampa Bay Krav Maga – Largo is a Krav Maga Global (KMG) training center in Largo. It is owned and operated by Brian Peters and Joe Battle. I don’t know much about Joe but I have trained with Brain Peters. He is a top notch instructor. He trained in KMWW for awhile, I don’t know if he was an instrector for KMWW. I met him when I trained in CKM (no comments please, he is no longer with CKM for obvious reasons). For the past few years he has been training under Eyal Yanilov in KMG. I think most people can attest to Eyal Yanilov’s knowledge and skill in Krav Maga.

The address is Tampa Bay Krav Maga – Largo
    12504 Starky Rd
    Largo, FL 33773
    727-267-6684

Hope I haven’t oversteped any boundaries on this forum, but I thought I would offer you another option. Good luck.

[QUOTE=Seraphs Coal;57933]Interested in your thoughts on this demonstration, especially at 1:20!

When I trained and competed in ATA Taekwondo I saw many demonstrations like this, especially at tournaments. Doesn’t mean they would be effective on the street.

Re: Who have you gotten to train with?

I had a chance to attend a Bas Rutten seminar many years ago when I was training in Maietta, GA.

    Re: 360 defense question

You will definitely get bruises from practicing 360 defenses.

    Re: Deltona Krav Instruction

If you are referring to the CKM classes that were held at the YMCA, that class closed down a few years ago. I’m not aware of any other KM classes in Deltona. Good luck in finding a training location.

Looks like a good way to loose a finger(s).

    Hi Stan,

Where are you training in Orlando? I moved here 5 months ago and have had a hard time finding a place. I was a student in Minneapolis and Chicago before this and both cities had very active schools. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Monica

I would be interested in knowing where you train also. When I first moved to Kissimmee about 6 years ago, I had a bad esperience with the quality of Krav instruction at one of he local schools. I ended up quiting and seeking a different form of self defense. I’ve since stopped that also.

Re: My first class and have some basic questions

I’m not sure depending on joint manipulation and pressure points are a good idea for self defense against an agressinve attack. Joint manipulation and pressure points mostly (I believe) use fine motor skills. When you are attacked, surprised, adreniline rushed and scared, possibly fighting for you life – those fine motor skills will most lilkely go out the window. I trained in Krav Maga (KMWW) for about 4 years and in CKM for about the same and in most all training senerios we used techniques utilizing gross motor skills – kicks to the groin, legs, abdoman – knee strikes, punches, elbows etc. Try using fine motor skills in a training senerio where you are being repeatidly attacked by multiple attackers for a few minutes and I believe you’ll find you won’t have time to even think about pressure points or joints, much less being able to apply them. I agree they may be useful to restrain and hold an attacker until authorities or help arrives – after you have taken the fight out of him with a gold kick to the groin or hard punch to the throat.
    Just my 2 cents anyway.
