Correct me if I’m wrong but it wasn’t that attacker’s hip we were concerned about but our own. The gun is to be pinned (with weight, no matter what) across from your own hip.

I actually purchased a small airsoft gun with a snubby barrel a while ago. I don’t find it hard to grip at all. I have small hands though so it could be just me.

I’ve never once mentioned the ear to my students. First and foremost, it takes the head in the wrong direction. And, unless the person has dumbo ears, it’s not much of a hand hold.

In my opinion, if you can reach the ear, you can reach the eyesocket. And like I said before, I’m almost 5’2\” and have had little trouble with reaching what I needed, even if the guy is big.

I take issue with all the grabbing of the ear talk. Ears are not attached really well and can come off in your hand if the attacker resists too much. I would go for the tendon in the neck if their face is turned away or the eye socket if you feel the nose isn’t viable, or they don’t have hair.

I suspect however, that you are pushing backward instead of peeling the head back. I’m five one, and the only problem I’ve had with the technique is if the pull down of the head lock is very very aggressive. But in that case you curl you knee in pull the shoulder, take them down and end in a side mount.

    Good luck –

    Lamb,

Resident Inn in Beverly Hills. Tell them you’re there for Krav Maga, they sometimes give a discount. It’s about a $100 a night and usually you’ll find other KM people to catch a ride with.

Never seen one. And, though I might be wrong, I believe you can’t have a custom one made up. The logo is trademarked.

Actually, sarcasm doesn’t carry well in a written forum unless everyone is familiar with you and your posts. As a matter of fact, sarcastic comments cause a great many misunderstandings on many boards.

So since you’re directing this at me, sarcasm is usually in italics or quotes (as in not your actual opinion).

Arcane Philosophies? Really. That’s odd. Krav’s pretty open and easy to understand.

But hey, maybe that’s just me.

    Wouldn’t you rather live?

That’s like saying, I have to make sure the gun doesn’t go off at all because I use my ears in my job and don’t want to be deaf. Your hands should be the last thing you think about.

Or, I don’t want a scar on this side, it’s my good side, so I think I’d rather take the bullet over here.

I’m just kind of wondering what this other magical weapon defense could be that completely negates any risk, gives us all a one hundred percent chance of living and leaves us totally unscathed.

    DannyO,

Not to get involved in the broad sweeping disdane you seem to have for people on a Krav Maga forum protecting the the form they’ve chosen, I have to say, in my classes I don’t allow things that are not Krav unless I am teaching them. I can’t have my students doing all sorts of moves that may hurt someone.

I had a student, a wrestler, do a take down on another level one student. The other student knew a break fall. But what if he hadn’t? I can’t allow this, safety in training. Level one is VERY controled. It has to be.

You may have an over zelous instructor or you may have an instructor who had someone injured because a student took it upon himself to hurt his partner with an advanced move the partner had no idea how to move with.

You come to Krav to learn Krav. You don’t join a boxing gym and kick someone in the balls. Baseball teams don’t allow a teammember to say, don a helmet and tackle the base runner (though I have to say, I might watch then).

We are a very open minded art. What we are closed minded about is someone making a broad statement that Krav will get someone killed. Stepping out your door can get you killed. But if it’s on another board, I really don’t care about it.

What’s strange is that you chose to bring it to our attention. Taking offense or trying to start something, you seem to be doing that later and if you’re trying to start something, what exactly is it? Think we’re going to come out a say \”yeah we suck\” Why would we devote time and money to a form that we’re not too sure about? Not to mention, blood and sweat.

This is a Krav board. Expect resistance against negative comments. I read the enitre thread on the other board, and left no comments. I refuse to join just to defend. I really could care less what they say. Everyone thinks theirs is the biggest. Being a chick, mine may not be the biggest, but it’s better for me and that’s all I care about.

I think we all practice for perfection but I don’t believe we will achieve it on the street with a real factor of pressure and stress added.

I kind of go back and forth on this issue. On one hand, there is the point that using the forearm gives more power (which some one small may well need) It also requires less acuracy.

But in turn, it leaves one’s hand farhter away for control. And a knife being one of the hardest to defend against, I want control as soon as possible. I learned wrist to wrist, and that’s the way I do it.

Funny, because I had this discusion with one of my guys, a great big officer who felt in the downward stab the defender should go for control right above the head and take the attack right into a lock. I pointed out that in his position (which is atleast a foot taller than me) he could afford to do that. When I showed him that from my position his move was not achievable, he understood why we swing down and cavilier at the waist.

I think we all tweek things eventually to work best us. That’s the beauty thing about Krav Maga. It, in no way shape or form, stagnates.
