Re: Targeting Knee vs. Quad in Roundkick

I think a little bit more like Ryan. Even on the ring your low kicks won’t be as accurate as they are on training, try to imagine what kind of messy work it’ll be in a street brawl. What if you end up on the knee cap and damage your own shinbone?

What I teach to my student is always go for the thigh with their back leg low kick (outside) and go either for the knee or thigh with their front leg’s (inside) ’cause the knee cap is kindah softer on the inside than on the outise if you see what I mean.

In addition a front leg low kick to the inside knee can easily unbalance an opponent setting him up for the explosive following right cross, BOO-YAH!

    Re: Phase A preperation

From my experience of instructor phases, I would say that:

    – Don’t play the tough guy. If you’re injured, you’re injured and if you don’t deal with it it won’t get better and you WILL be impeed.

    – Stay focused, the most important thing is not to be able to do the technique 5 times perfectly bu to be abble to do it very good for 5 minutes keeping your aggression (not so easy).

    – Do not think in therm of “time left” but in therm of “time done”. Ex: Dont say to yourself “Crap, still 3 days to go” but “Already two days behind me, I can keep the pressure”

    – It could sounds like a very european advice but if you have the chance, go donwtown at the evening to have two pints of beer and a bag of chips 😉 It really helps the day after…

    Re: Reacting to Insult

Ok allright then! I thought a road rage was a bang. Sorry for my english mates 😉

Considering the fact of exiting the car while the guy is waiting you outside, it could indead be very dangerous. Talking about weapons, if you have no choice than to get out of the car and start the slapings dont forget to take your fire instinguisher with you 😉

    Re: Reacting to Insult

I totally agree with you Krav MD Jeff.

In the other hand Madogmean, if you are involved in a car indicent, I think it’s normal to get out of your car at least to see if the other driver in injured or to clarify the situation.

I think I would also have been really pissed of if I had a bang and the other guy just stayed in his car laughing the hell out of me :p

    Re: Taking time off

Yeah true. But exepted from you and a very few blokes, nobody knows it really. There a constant conflict in the Easter country for long time. Most people don’t know and don’t care, “just black people shooting at each other, kind of local national sport”

I love spartan training so :p
I never use any machine for muscle reinforcement. I also like the Crossfit mentallity and drills.

    Re: Reacting to Insult

^^ There’s a lot of tricks. I dont like it taht much but they are sometimes necessary.

One of them in to stand in a stairway when somebody in pushing you. It’s makes it a more serious threat.

On another note – 1 year in the Congo? Wow, not exactly the most stable place on Earth, that must have been interesting to say the least.. (!)..

Interesting, exactly 😉 Lot of gu….. I mean “fun”! :d:d:d

Re: good video on gun defense and what happens when you grab the barrel

Hi Chocolate soldier. I guess everybody who has been even basically trained in shooting has gone trough these Jeff Cooper’s rules. In absolute theory, a gun won’t go bang unexpectedly if they are followed.

However, i’ve no idea of how much people, even trained, have shot themselves or other people by accidents with firearms carried in a too casual or too jumpy manner. I cannot really talk ’bout US, but here in Belgium, a police officer WILL be jumpy if he spots you holding a gun in you hand unless you hold it in the casualest way possible (By the slide, pointing downward ie).

Anyway you made me realize that I forgot to cover two important points in the scenario where you’ve taken the gun, ran to safety, called the police and unloaded it.

Even if you’ve gone trough the unloading procedure, you still have to take care to point the barrel downward and keep your fingers off the trigger.

Anyway, as I’ve said, it’s also a matter of personal opinions ’bout that. SURE it is the person holding the gun that kills and not the gun itself. BUT if this person has no gun, then it won’t happen FOR SURE 😉

    Re: Taking time off

    Hi mate

I’ve been in the same situation 2 years ago when I was a KM student and had to go one year in the Congo for a job (no KM school down there).

Now that I’m a KM instructor, I would advice you AT ALL to try to improve your skills with videos or books. The books and videos could help you to remember your instructor words when you try to MAINTAIN your skills. It’s actually the most important, maintain your skills, keep fit and maybe try to get some skills from an instructor from an other similar system.

What I mean by that? In the Congo for instance, I was training a bit KM with a partner (not learning, training ;-)) but had also 20 hours a week of boxing ’cause it’s a very developped sport there.

So try to find something working with your injury that helps you to keep fit and maybe to improve you punching or you kicking or wrestling or watherver.

    Hope this helps
