I’ve always been partial to the drill where you stand in the middle with your eyes closed and are attacked. It’s a great way to build confidence in what you have just learned since you don’t have time to think, you just react.

    Re: Uniform Question

We actually schedule twice a year (once in summer and once in winter) a work clothes week were we wear whatever we wear in our normal day to day activities.

IMHO since the majority of my students do not spend their day in workout clothes it is important to train in what they will typically be wearing. Several woman wear sweats or yoga pants under an old skirt with low heels and men are in business casual or suits.

Re: Alpha Krav Maga is better than KMWW???

The only times I’ve ever met/trained with Sam he’s been very complimentary of various instructors from different organizations.

Re: What techniques are/should be taught to newbies?

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I always spend a great portion of class going over how to fall if my class will include flips or takedowns.

    Re: Is Boxing Dead?

A smaller ring would probably help so there is less room to run.

I was reading an article about Greg Jackson’s MMA gym, one of the best in the world, training Jon Jones, etc. I was surprised that he only lets them spar one day a week. The rest of the time they’re doing drills. I guess even pro UFC fighters can only take getting beaten up so much without it hurting their performance.

==>yeah but all of them was P**** ! they dont know anything from the fight… think they are bada** but i promise you guys they su** in the street <==

    [yes that is sarcasm]

Could be worse, you could be working in my department. If that was the case, the problem child employee would likely get shuffled around until he/she ended up in some cushy assignment and/or got promoted…

“Promote incompetence so it can’t do any harm” seems to be the motto of where of I work also.

Re: Defense against arm lock behind back?

for what it is worth – assuming that they have my left arm i would #3 elbow with right, step out with my right leg so my left hip is pointed towards the assailant and side kick the knee, or continue the pivot so i can do a wrist release and groin kick.

Re: I can’t kick above the waist!

Imho always consider the risk/reward of kicking – kicking the head is high reward but riskier than kicking the knee or the groin (which are high reward/low risk to my thinking), so I wouldn’t worry too much about not being able to kick high.

Re: Can’t get pass the white belt level and now I can’t sleep

we don’t use belts at my school but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGtVHKJIfa8 has a step by step for a traditional belt.

also, quit comparing your progress to your classmates’ progress. everyone learns at different speeds, just ask yourself if you know more than you did before.

    and also, congratulations.

Re: Are Videos Just as Effective or somewhat?

They make a great supplement but nothing can replace actual training with a qualified instructor. The videos can help you with the techniques but the aggression, stress and awareness training you get in a class can’t be replicated on video. That being said, videos are better than nothing.
