Re: "Black belt Krav Maga" – book ??

Got mine today as well!:woohoo: Haven’t had much time with it yet, but the part concerning the law is very interesting, as are the techniques. Can’t wait to spend some serious time with it!

Re: After you’ve used KM to defend yourself, do you report it or keep quiet?

    quote jjbklb:

I talked to a salesman in a Maryland knife-store a couple of years ago.
He told me that it was legal to carry a folding knife, and wasn’t considered a ‘concealed weapon’ as long as a small part protrudes from the pocket (such as what would show if you used the knife-clip on the end of the handle to secure it in the pocket.

In Pa. I was told by more than one law officer that a folding knife was legal,& that no blade length was listed as illegal in the statutes.

I just bought a Benchmade Griptilian 551BK with a blade length of 3.45″. I checked my State’s laws beforehand and it’s all good. As long as the blade is under 3.5″ and it’s a manual folding knife most States approve.

    Re: Punching bags

That does look nice. Maybe once the price goes down or I can find a used one somewhere.

    Mortal Kombat ;):
The song is called Blood Bath. And the one from the final fight ain’t bad either.

    Re: Deadliest Warrior

    quote KMCat:

If you were comparing “apples to apples” so to speak, would not you compare Apache to Ninja?

That would have been cool and it would’ve made more sense. But then again, it’s also interesting to see how two different warriors would do against each other, not just similar warriors. Still, a very interesting show.

Green Beret vs Spetznaz? Nice! I hope there’ll be a season two, because there are some notable omissions, like Romans, Persians, Mongols, Chinese.

Why don’t we make our own match-ups? What would you like to see?

    Re: CC guy shoots robber

It’s a tough call. How do you gauge whether lives are at stake or if the gun is just used to intimidate? Depending on the situation, fighting back can be the worse option.

Nonetheless, the perp broke the law and placed innocent people at risk. The customer should not be held responsible by the people. A criminal is a criminal and should be treated as such.

Re: What do you guys think of this video?

I agree that some good points are made in the video, but it’s also a gross generalization and propaganda. For example to show students training slowly. Of course you have to learn the technique before applying it to real speed.

Many KM students don’t take it seriously and lack the mind set of real life combat. Real fights are dirty, brutal and quick. I think that’s the main difference between KM and MMA – MMA fighters have the warrior mentality.

That’s why I study so many real life fights, to see how people really act, react and fight. And most of the time it involves grabbing, clinching and going to the ground.

KM is fantastic when used with the right mindset, which is to be ready at all times, to be aggressive once it starts and to take it to the bitter end.

Re: weight training and krav maga

I just lift weights. No idea what kind of exercises they are. A friend gave me one of those big machines for free (great deal on my end!) and I just looked at the manual and picked different exercises for different areas. Then I compiled my own plan (weights 4 days a week). Works like a charm, I’ve put on a lot of mass and lost weight at the same time. I didn’t overthink it.

Re: haganah gun defense compared to krav gun defense

“It’s a tactical mistake to make this defense”. Yeah, that’s why in KM we redirect the gun to the ground. I’m also not so sure how well this disarm would work in a real life situation when the attacker has a tight grip. Can someone who has done this disarm give some input?

I’m not knocking it, since I’m still a rookie, but this doesn’t convince me. The attacks in the videos are pretty weak (a common problem in such videos) and I just don’t know how well it would work in real life. Am I wrong?

Re: The point at which you’d react to a gun threat…

My instinct is to go for it immediately, but it is important to be aware of your surroundings, which you should always be and not just when something happens so you don’t waste precious time.
Here is my mindset: I won’t be a victim and I won’t let anyone bully me. It is my property/money/possession and why should I give it to some punk? I will stand up for myself. Now, having said that, if the situation is such that making a move is unlikely to succeed I will give in, but it is not my preferred choice.

    Re: Is Krav Training Effective?…Enough?

I agree that a technique should first be learned and then the partner should put more resistance into it. It’s true that you will never get a realistic scenario during training, because your partner knows that a defense is coming, which is not the case in a real confrontation. I have watched and studied many real fights online for exactly that reason. How do people react? What do they do? I have come to the conclusion that a well executed defense including counterattack will be effective in most cases. Of course there are many factors that can change the game, but on a whole it should work. That’s why it’s important to be quick and aggressive. Break that nose, hit those eyes or balls. That will be enough to distract the attacker. Keep in mind that most aggressors don’t expect you to fight back, therefore their guard will be down. Remember – it’s either you or him, so don’t hold back.
