    Re: Moni’s claims

Can we at least agree that Van Damme’s system has the best dance moves?

If the guy has any techniques I like, I’ll take ’em, regardless of what they’re called. As for the rest of it, I don’t care if his only military experience is being a member of the Kiss Army.

I have been very happy with the all of the offically licensed Krav Maga products I have purchased thus far, so I am hoping that any delays on the book are only to ensure quality.

Disregard my previous post. That is how to contact the supernatural killer, Candy Man. E-mail worked for me.

Go to a mirror and say \”Candy Man\” three times.

Like I said, the book is decent. If you are already studying Krav Maga, it is of little use as what it covers is very basic. The other Krav book I own is a Hebrew to English translation of an older Krav publication that focuses almost exclusively on weapons defenses. My guess is the John Whitman/Darren Levine book coming out in February will be the most comprehensive to date. They were involved in the Krav videos and the production value was top notch. I expect nothing less from their literary effort.

Beats me. I have that book. What did you think of it? Not bad. I also have the original Krav Maga book with Imi in a lot of the demo pictures. There is also a new Krav book coming out in February I believe.

Figures. Now he’s ripping off Andy Kauffman. Told you he was talentless.

Pauly Shore doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Andy Kaufman.

Subject: Media Inquiries into alleged assault of comedian Pauly Shore
    Date: December 12, 2006

Earlier this morning, investigators of the Crimes Against Persons Unit of the Odessa Police Department began receiving inquiries into an event which allegedly occurred on the evening of December 9, 2006. On that date, comedian Pauly Shore was performing at the ì8 Street Comedy Clubî in our city.

These inquiries were stimulated over a video clip which is circulating on the internet which displays Shore arguing with a western attired heckler who comes onto the stage and subsequently assaults Mr. Shore. The alleged suspect is then escorted from the stage by an Odessa Police Officer. The clip was apparently video taped by someone in the audience.

After viewing the video, the officer who was employed at the club in an off-duty capacity, was contacted by investigators. The officer reported he had met with Mr. Shore prior to his set, and was asked to participate in the skit. The officer stated that the skit went as designed and that Shore was not injured in the designed skit.

The officer reports that after the show, Pauly Shore conducted his autograph session and had his photograph taken with the alleged ìassaulter.î

There is no further investigation into this incident.

The part that I disapprove of more than anything is the fact that comedy clubs in general have ZERO security. You have people getting drunk just like in a bar but without there being a bouncer. I used to do stand up and have played clubs in New York City and Los Angeles and security equaled me shoving some drunk asshole off stage and/or hoping this one jacked comedian I sometimes did shows with was doing a set that night so he could bundle the trouble maker. Security at a comedy club equals calling the police after the shit hit the fan.

Well, the people that work at my school are cool. I’m hoping they allow the students a little time to build their wardrobe and don’t bust chops too bad. 😥

My advice – DON’T DO IT! Why would you want to be burdened with being in shape, meeting new people and gaining an overall sense of self-confidence that will infiltrate every aspect of your life?

Obviously I’m being sarcastic, but I am so pleased you are thinking about joining. No, you’re not in the middle of an info-mercial, it’s just that I have resumed my training after a 5 year lay-off and only now do I realize that learning to fight is only one of many benefits to training. Training indirectly helps y ou work through shyness (I have to pretend to choke a complete stranger!!?? and assertiveness (pound the pad even if it backs your partner into the mirror!)

Join and stick with it. It is natural to feel awkward, intimidated and in my case, OUT-OF-SHAPE when you first start but your best effort is all that is required. Listen carefully to your instructors, follow their instructions and enforce those instructions with your partner and you will be amazed at what you can do!

Sorry baby girl. I have been trying to track down the Bas CD’s for months anb they are simply not available without buying the entire \”Bas Big Book of Combat\” package. If I hear anything different I will let you know.

    Tank,
I hope John Whitman can fix this for you. ALL instructors should be up to speed on the curriculum and how to bring new students at that level along so they are not missing any techniques applications or anything else for that matter.

We have been waiting for several months to test for L2. Some of these people have been in Krav for 4 YEARS!!!! Then we find out that our instructor failed L3 Instructor Course so here we sit, at the ready, but with NO new curriculum to learn. When we asked why he thinks he failed, he said that the NTC has not told him why just that he will have to take another week off work and go to LA and spend his time trying to pass something he has no idea of why he failed in the first place. So as we see others in the KM community move up level after level, it gets really frustrating when you know you can’t move up until there is an instructor that can teach it. I mean come on, there should be more uniformity on the time spent on these Levels. The disparity between schools is quite vast and also very bothersome to the growth of KM in this area.

Well, John was as good as his word and as a result I was absolutely ecstatic when my instructors did a class dedicated to proper hook and uppercut technique. I really feel that at least I know the right way to do them and have a starting point from which to work towards mastering them. I am not one of those guys that is just interested in the next technique, the next belt etcetera. I still attend Level 1 classes as I feel you can never have enough practice when it comes to the meat and potatoes. Hooks and uppercuts were the next logical techniques to learn and I am glad that I pushed to have them taught. It’s in my hands now.

    Hey, wow, great answer!! 😉

    Tank,

Just some general points: Have you tried different LV2 classes? Some teachers may be more experienced overall than others. I think there is a LV2 taught by Michael Margolin on Mondays 5:45pm, he’s been doing KM for over twenty years (started as a kid) and he may be the most experienced person teaching LV2. He also teaches a LV1 after that. Kelly is also very good or Dave Famili (on Sundays).

When I moved up to level 2 (many years ago) we really broke down all of the exercises, including the combatives (new punches, kicks, defenses). We would often do the exercise in the mirror, slowly, so people could watch and imitate the teacher, then later try it stronger, to the focus mitt or pad. There would be analogies to aid students in understanding a certain movement or punch (hook punch being like stirring a pot for example). The teacher would always come around and correct, giving special attention to new students. Sometimes the punches would also be reviewed as part of the warm-up (during shadow boxing or so).

Since hook and upper cut punches are a new skill in LV2, I do believe it makes sense to focus some special attention on them and make sure the technique is done correctly. It may seem easy to people who have been there for a while, but for a new student, it may appear to be a strange, unnatural movement at first and, as with everything else, it takes practice.

I hope all will be resolved for you!

They don’t get much better than Michael as far as instructors go. I may need to move my work schedule around to make that class but I think it is plausible.
