Re: Is Krav Training Effective?…Enough?
In a real fight you probably will get hit, hurt, cut, maybe even stabbed. It is just a matter of how many times you will get hit, stabbed or cut(and sometimes if you will survive).
That’s why the best defence is always to try and just walk away, but if it goes the wrong way at least you’ll have a fighting chance te get away reletively unharmed. Also I believe , most agressors pick out the easyest prey and will back off if you meet them with equal agressiveness and fighting skills.

I would say, make a sideturn so his thumb becomes exposed, then with your free hand grab the thumb(palm of your hand on his thumb) en push his thumb down towards his pinky(be carefull not to hurt your sparringpartner).

Just go to your dentist and ask for a custum made mouthguard. I have done this and I¥m very pleased with it. It is of course more expensive, but it makes breathing much easier and I can easily talk when wearing it.

First of all, where I live, Krav Maga isn’t really tought to kids, so I really don’t have any idea what sort of moves these kids are taught.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it is always good to learn kids how to escape from a potentially life-threatening situation.
On the other hand, some Krav techniques can cause some serious damage/pain and what would stop a kid from using these techniques in a simple schoolyard brawl between 10 year olds? Kids are usually not known for their self-restrain.For this reason only, I wouldn’t like to see children taught these more agressive techniques.

We wear “uniforms”, just a simple white T-shirt with IKMF logo and sturdy black fightpants. Especially the pants are great, because they can withstand the groundfighting exercises.

I train with IKMF, but also bougt the KMWW book. As Krav Maga practioners we must just take what we can use in our fights. If I see a great dirty trick from an other system like BJJ on tv, I just use it for Krav Maga sparring.
These sorts of dicussions have a tendency to end up in “My trainer can beat up your trainer” discussions. Overall the sumularities are much greater than the differences(politics aside)

Our instructor simply tells us to change trainings/sparringpartners during excercises. We have the rule that you train with whoever is available and often the instructor yells “switch partners”. I think this is very important for the “group feeling” and respect to have trained with everyone in the group. Especially during sparring it is better to have an aponant you are not familiar with in front of you. For one, he doesn’t know your dirty tricks, and you can’t anticipate his every move as you would have otherwise. In my opinion, this simulates the “real deal” a whole lot better.

At our gym we don’t train with headgear. Is training with headgear mandatory in the US?

Hi guys(and ladies of course),
I’m from Rotterdam(The Netherlands) and have been practising Krav maga for about a year now. I train with an IKMF gym, run bij Franklyn Hartlamp, and will soon be up for my P2 exam. I have been lurking around the forum for quite a while and only decided to register yesterday.
