    Re: Are gloves ok??

Be careful not to get too dependent on wraps or gloves for wrist support. Begin a routine NOW to strengthen your wrist.

I got used to extra wrist support. Was monkey in the middle without gloves or wraps and wham……. nasty sprain. 6 mos. now and still not completely healed.

Extra support is good for heavy mitt and bag work but spend time striking the bag without and doing exercises to strengthen your wrists.

Re: Is Rank Important to You?

    quote KMMAN:

Very well said but the dilemma lies in that if you do not test, you can’t go to anything but L1 classes. That’s what I always liked about boxing…you just train, train, train and you train more advanced naturally as you need to.

So what is the solution to the Krav Maga dilemma (if it’s even a dilemma)?

    KMMAN,

Check with your school owner. Where I train a student can start taking the next higher level classes with time-in the system and approval of an instructor.

    Good Luck

    Re: Yellow belt test report.

    Congradulations……………….

I was the guy taking the photos.

    quote AviatorDave:

The other thing I noticed – there were a few male/female teams, I’m guessing husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend – that would have made the test a helluva lot easier when I was on the receiving end.

Don’t count on that………. I often work with my wife (she was in the test with you but not being scored -already passed, just partnering and preparing for next test) and some of the other ladies. Some of em can really put it on ya…….

    Re: Wraps in training

A little wisdom from bad experience here:

I pretty much always wore wraps or gloves. While preparing for L3 test I was the monkey in the middle with no gloves or wraps, one or more of the stations were strikes. Well I turned to one of the striking stations and went at it… Well the pad holder wasn’t square to me and “whomp”: my wrist gave and I ended up with a nasty sprain (so much for L3).

It takes for frickin ever for this injury to heal…… In looking into this injury I found that many boxers who train with wrist support get this same injury the first time they throw a punch for real outside the ring with no protection. I had become dependent on the wrist support and when I didn’t have it……wham…..injury.

I’ve since been told that it’s good to train with support but you should routinely do heavy bag work without it so you’re not dependent on it.

I plan to take that advice as soon as this darn thing heals….

    Re: Increasing Flexibilty

Haven’t used Power Yoga but can vouch for the usefullness and effectiveness of Dallas Page’s YRG (Yoga for Regular Guys).

It combines iso-metrics and iso-kenetics with a yoga workout. He developed it while in his mid-40s to keep him going in his pro-wrestling career.

I used it a lot when I first started training in Krav to help me recover from my Krav workouts and increase my flexibility.

Google “Yoga for Regular Guys” if you want more info. He has some pretty incredible testimonials.

Re: How do classes in different areas compare?

    Dave,

I see you are in Dallas so we probably train at the same place. If you are not getting enough physical workout out of your Krav basic class I suggest you attent the StrongFit or Combat Cardio prior to these classes on Mon and Wed.

We are lucky that we have a fairly large and diverse group of instructors. Some stress technique in their class while others stress the physical side (I mean mindset, agression, and staying in the fight). The amount of physical exertion is also dependent on the material being covered, some classes are just less physically demanding than others.

Some students have their favorite instructors, I appreciate and have learned from all of them.

Remember, there’s a time to reform your technique and a time for that killer workout.

    Re: Training Weapon Alternative

I’ve seen that used in our school several times.

Usually, only the instructors use it for demonstration. The gun owner probably doesn’t want his weapon slammed around the room…. Even though it’s a Glock.thumbsup

    Re: Bike Trainer Advice?

I’m a big fan of the Schwinn Air-Dyne. I know……. They are older than dirt, but they give the best workout of any stationary bike out there. The harder you push the harder it pushes back. AND……No mechanical friction for resistance which makes is extremely smooth.

I was once traveling for work, I stayed at a hotel with a very small workout room. All they really had was a Schwinn AirDyne so I was forced to use it.

After 2 weeks I liked it so much went out and bought my own.

Been using it regularly for over 12 years now.

Take a look at them before you decide.

Re: Flying tips during the holidays

    I’ll add another one.

If you store bags in the overhead bins……. Have them ready to get your butt off the plane when the time comes. There’s nothing more aggrivating than waiting 20 mins for everyone in front of you to de-plane than haveing to watch EVERYONE of them wait for the line to get to them before they START gathering their stuff……..Be READY……..Da—-t……It’s not lile we don’t know we’re about to get off the plane……..:soapbox:

    Ok Rant over……….

Thanks for that post Jenn…… 7 years of consulting (100% travel) was enough for me……. I have the utmost respect for you guys who make a career of it…..

A sense of humor and copious amounts of alcohol really help. And yes, this is a great time to observe people at their worst.

Re: I’m preparing to riot – how ’bout you?

    quote EVO8:

I agree. That was a scary time for me in los angeles. Rioting and looting is just wrong.

I didn’t see this before I posted but Good-on-you for seeing things that way. I couldn’t agree more….

Re: I’m preparing to riot – how ’bout you?

    quote EVO8:

I understand what you are saying, but you seem to have this notion that minorities are somehow not able to control themselves and act violently when something doesn’t go the way they thought it would go. Riots based on racial tension don’t just occur based on what COULD be corruption. The Los Angeles Riot of ’92 occurred because of the FACT that the corrupt cops were acquitted. The Watts Riot of ’65 was fueled by the racial tension that escalated due to the passing of Prop 14 which allowed landlords to discriminate based on race.

Now i would agree with you if McCain won, and it was PROVEN that he won due to racial corruption, and they caught the corrupt people involved, put them on trial, and THEN let them go without even a slap on the wrist, then yes, a riot would have occurred.

As far as social unrest occurring based on less, yes, i agree and do realize that happens. I mean, rioting has occurred in recent history after stupid sporting events. But you can’t blame that on just minorities. That’s the fault of all those people of any race.

All i am saying is when you say, “Had he lost the minority community would have seen this as a huge injustice and probably corruption”, and when you say, “Had Obama lost many would have seen this as a huge racial smite” i find it a bit offensive. Please give us a little more credit than that.

anyway, glad to hear you didn’t have to shoot any of us with your carbine.

First off, you seem to have a threshold where you see indiscriminant violence against innosents, aka “rioting”, is justifiable. I see NO circumstances where this is justifiable.

My comments were on a “potentially” racialy charged situation artificially created by the MSM. This obviously challenged your threshold, thus your being offended. Too bad… I certainly wasn’t the first to notice it and definately not the first to comment on it.

If you haven’t noticed this thread was started in a “Humorous” vain. If you are seeking a political or racial argument there are other forums for that.

Having said that…………I’m Done with this.

btw, I’m glad I didn’t have to shoot any of you also………….. Give Me A Break……..

    quote EVO8:

Well, in that case, we should be afraid no matter who wins

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxjzm8I7U2c

There’s going to be radicals on both sides. But riots? I still think it’s not even in the same ballpark as the Rodney King beating. Not that it justifies it, because it doesn’t, but the reason the riots were triggered was not due to the video, but due to the acquittal of the cops involved. The injustice of it all was the driver.

    EVO8 –

Here’s my point. For months the MSM had been using flawed polls to portray this huge Obama lead. Had he lost the minority community would have seen this as a huge injustice and probably corruption. You can see by the results there was no 10+ point blowout like the MSM polls were suggesting. Had Obama lost many would have seen this as a huge racial smite. There has been social unrest in the past for less.

I’m glad there was no social unrest but had there been it would lie on the hands of those in the MSM who let their bias guide their coverage.

And you are correct, there are wacko’s on both sides.
