    Re: AR-15’s

I tried to qual with the aimport and after trying to zero the damn thing it threw it off and put on the EoTEC that worked ok but I still just cant get over using iron sites. Which is what ill be using for my upcoming deployment to the sandbox esp since my armorer hasent given me new handguard to mount my ir pointer and surefire…..so good ole 550 cord and ducktape will be applied down there if that doesnt get done and nothing beats all that (iron sites, 550, and ducktape). Imagine if that guy that invented all that knew what other uses were instore for his product. lol

Re: Krav Maga Spokane is Open!!

    quote Hemibuck:

Hi, I have just returned from Phase A in San Antonio and let me say what an amazing experience! An AMAZING facility, a great group of instructors, and very tough fellow Phase A students pushed me through a week that changed my life.

I am happy to announce that I passed and that I am going to be offering my first class this Saturday the 27th at 11am. Please feel free to spread the word and look for our “Grand” opening later in July. I will be teaching within the CrossFit gym at 116 E. Augusta.

Thanks to all that supported me through this journey….I could not have done it without you!!

Re: What do you guys think of this video?

Krav Maga is a pretty generic term in israel when it comes to styles of it. He use to be a paratrooper so Im sure hes accustomed to something similar to (but isnt) KMWW. Moti is a good guy I got to work with him last yr threw my unit his combatives and self defense techniques were alittle different (from KMWW) however gun disarms didnt change and I have some more tools for the tool box from him.

maybe the best explanation, is that krav is not designed for full on fighting? only escape from certain situations?

Wow I really thought it was pointless to even finish the video. The makers really had it in for Krav. What I didnt see in the video was any knifes or guns or bats. You should try looking around the forum dude especially since many people on here have continuely made the point that MMA has rules it is a sport (one I occasionally watch) krav is not its like comparing apples and oranges…..very pointless. Now if they started throwing the rules out and added knifes and bats eye gouges etc I’m very sure krav would be taking a step up (along with theyre ratings Id defintely would tune in everynight) in these cause last I checked first rule was ….theyre are none. Just do what you gotta do to walk home in peace its that simple. Anyone that compares these two arts well are ignorant since theyre both geared toward different things sport fighting and Self defense (/occasionaly offense for military).

    Re: BJJ Vs KM

    quote Hemibuck:

Funny you should ask…lol! The owner of Crossfit, where I will hopefully be teaching, is an instructor for SERE. He was so excited when I came to him with my gameplan. He and others from fairchild have made some likewise comments. Hopefully we can get a few of them to sign up. Thanks for the advice!

Oh Im sure theyre gonna come by and check it out cause krav has been exposed to certain parts of the AF already (OSI and certain special operations units) and its gotten some great feed back (all they have up there is the army combatives program and its based off BJJ). It’s still gonna have to go threw the channels (and political AF bs), however it would be great if they threw it into the circulum up there and do great service for the guys going threw SERE school esp the combat occupations that run threw there. Im sure theyll have a particular interest in the weapons and knife defenses and self defense for women.Krav in general is what that school probably needs fast quick simple and above all proven effective system and the time spans for that school thats all they have time for esp with the people constantly going threw.

    Re: BJJ Vs KM

    quote Hemibuck:

Ok so now that I am getting the wheels set in motion for opening up here in Spokane I am finding that when people ask questions about Krav they always want to compare it to BJJ. I first want to say that I believe BJJ is a great style and hope to learn more of it in the future. Now with that I believe that the obsession with BJJ comes from the huge popularity of MMA…which I am a huge fan of…lol!

So my question is how do you win over the BJJ fans, that don’t even practice it, to give Krav a try? Today I was in a no win situation with a gentleman who is completely convinced that ALL situations go to the ground and BJJ is the ONLY way out. I tried to tell him that first and foremost we try to avoid confrontation and second we try to avoid going to the ground at all costs. I also said that if it goes to the ground we have ground techniques to get out of that situation. So anyway thanks for the advice!

All the replies above were good reasons man I mean ignorance is bliss dude what can I say, but since your up in Spokane if you really want to make an impact youd invite out those SERE instructors from Fairchild. Cause the stuff they were teaching was well I dont wanna say pretty much useless (to most it was), however they def could be teaching something better esp for the time frame they have and the type of jobs running threw there. I wrote it down in the suggestion box, but the way the AF is um ya probably wont get pushed inless some senior guys get the attention of it.

Re: haganah gun defense compared to krav gun defense

    quote tech94:

hey im not trying to say this is better than that or criticize in anyway, but i have a question about the gun defense used in km. when the gun is in front and aimed high like say your chest or head, in km the defense is to redirect to the side while in haganah its redirect upwards. in jkd we dont have gun defense scenario training per se and i feel its a hole in my tool bag. i personally think that redirecting laterally may endanger those around you (if there is anyone around you like a friend or spouse) while upward redirection seems ‘safer’ to by standers. is there a reason that km uses the lateral redirection? has it been proven to be the better way? im not trying to stir up any controversy and i realize that haganah/fight has derived alot of their techniques from km just looking for some insight i guess. as i said we dont have emoty hand vs gun defense in jkd that i would attempt to apply

My unit sent me to a course last yr and I asked our instructor (who was certified in israel however not part of KMWW) about this and to me yes it has its advantages and disadvantages like every other move out there and needs to be executed with speed and surprise (pretty much like every technique in martial arts). This particular move in question is basically just another tool for the tool box. You may (hopefully) never have to use it you may use something else you learned, or may be put into a situation where it may be the best option (3rd party etc). I mean the criteria for executing it was you had to have your hands up (the usual position of disadvantage ie evasion situation or just outright oh Im “surprised” lol) and need to be extremely close meaning you had to some how close the gap (verbal judo with a nice distractor or playing scared sh**less all situation dictating of course) and then execute the move. Like I said just another tool for the tool box man another way of getting the job done so to speak.

Re: Hurt at work today – out of Phase B!

    quote stevetuna:

Oh – and one more thing…

The dog wasn’t sicced on me. It was simply protecting its master. I never really thought about shooting the dog (um, mostly because my gun hand was being gnawed on). It was wild to try to stack a human and an animal.

The guy tried to groin kick me a couple times but I was able to leg check him each time. In spite of today’s success in that department, I don’t think I’m ready to try my luck against Kelly Campbell real soon!

BTW – here’s what we did last night: http://www.ack.net/drugraid111108.html

Nice man glad to hear your doing good hope that guy got the broken seat belt on the way to jail as for Phase B dont worry it will always be there and youll be far more prepared for it next time around.

    Re: Biloxi

    quote Medic1:

That is pretty funny. I know that because I’m in the Air Force everyone thinks oh he is probably out of shape and doesn’t know a thing about combat. I have never seen combat this it true but I am also a medic and am in very good shape because us junior enlisted have to be so the NCO’s don’t have to lift anything or break a nail. I will eventually see plenty of combat. I just want to be prepared for the unknown. You know what is sad though… The Air Force gives us like 4 hours with a rifle rofl2and thats it in basic and we never see it again untill we deploy. I am technically a “Non-Combatant” but does that matter to the isurgency in the middle east hell no! So i figured becoming prepared for this eventual fact of my career is a great idea and an awsome work out in the learning process. I found out today that there are some SPEC OPS instructors on base that may know a thing or two about KM or may even be willing to get certified as an instructor. I just need some more info from them and the site.

Hey man are you on keesler? If you cant find or attend or talk your unit into sending you to a course try and look around for some LINE (system) instructors the creator of the system lives about 20 min from hurlburt field and use to teach at the (TACP) schoolhouse so there around. Its a pretty good system and its better to have some tools in your tool box then none. If your deploying with an army unit ask about attending one of there combatives programs (your far better off though with LINE or krav). Since they dont really deal with self defense from weapons till like level 3 and that could take awhile to get to that part and its allot of grappeling, which isnt something Im going to be able do with full battle rattle. So dont forget to think practicality and what your needs are.

    Re: Krav maga getting bashed?

Dude it all comes down to what your needs are.Krav is a great system and its been proven time and time again everyone in my unit that was exposed to it during our shoot course loved it and saw many practical applications for it. What it really comes down to is whos teaching you Ive been very lucky to have some instructors that were not only rich with experience and training but great teachers esp out in chatsworth, however ive been to san antonio and well not to knock on anyone but it just wasent the same the instructor teaching wasent bad, however wasent the caliber i was use to working with he missed quite a bit of stuff and failed to mention to tuck your chin when getting choked and certain varying situations that could occur. Im pretty sure I coulda taught the class, but its life and this goes for every course or art you wanna learn it comes down to for the most part the teacher.
