Re: Is Rank Important to You?
I don’t know if it’s considered “important” to me, as I really don’t care what color belt I have, or what rank I am, but challenging myself is important. Having a goal in mind and reaching it helps me maintain focus and train hard for it.
So I would say no in the fact that rank doesn’t matter, but yes as a training, motivation, and goal orientation. A training tool if you will.

There’s a lot of rumors flying around about whether Rampage is or isn’t playing Baracus. He hasn’t released anything official, and I’m a little lenient about believing Yahoo after they reported Fedor E. had signed with the UFC, it’s a bit hard to tell whether the information they have is correct or not.

2 Krav Maga classes a week, on top of 2 BJJ and 2 Muay Thai. All together I’m doing 12 hours per week, and will soon add another 3 on Saturday (BJJ and Krav)

Welcome!
KM is a great defense to choose from. It”ll definitely help you with knife defenses.
On a side note, I’m jealous of you being in Ireland. I visited there for about a week last year and absolutely loved it. I’m definitely going back as soon as I can.

Thanks to you both!
This is the first week I’m doing it. I’ll slowly work into the running to give my body some adjustment, but I’m hoping to be at the full schedule here shortly.

I usually don’t see him smiling unless he’s making fun of lefties.

If we could get Ryan in that jacket, we might have a live-action version of that guy.

It was tough, wasn’t it Paul? All the “spectators” said everybody looked good. I know I feel confident. I know I can’t wait to find out for sure though.

quote jdawgmcb:What would be the appropriate action if he jumped me or simply threw a punch at me after a verbal encounter?Defend yourself. If he throws a punch, you are not obligated to take it. If he takes a swing, then by all means go hands on. Like the above poster said, you don’t have to render the guy unconcious, but defend yourself and end the fight. Meet a threat with like force.
Also a good point by the above poster, is that the best fights are the ones you avoid. One of the best pieces of training I’ve ever received is learning how to be confident enough in my abilities so that I can avoid a fight.

If this guy has been losing multiple fights, it makes me think he has something to prove. He got torn up in public, and now his ego is hurt, and he needs to prove he can fight.
Be watchful, but let it go. You don’t have to let him shove you around, but I wouldn’t give him the time of day. Nothing annoys bullies more than you not being intimidated by him.

quote Night Robin:From your experience with Kettlebells, is this a full body workout or what? I bought a Kettlebell and this workout seems credible enough but I was wondering if its good on its own or if other exercises should be added. The only thing I think you would need to add is some push ups. Other than that I’d say that’s a pretty comprehensive workout.
May 4, 2009 at 4:38 am #75347ncsam160MemberRe: Your favorite KM instructors?
quote Night Robin:I have never in the near 8 months I have been training had a bad instructor. Everyone who has taught my classes has helped me improve tremendously. From my first class where i limped for a week til now, I have been given nothing but the best instruction. I credit the great instructors there as the reason the place has such a familial feeling. All that being said, I have to go with Mike. The man is crazy. Puts you through intense drills. And gets the very best out of you. Every class with him has been fun and informative, with him occasionally teaching us something from the higher levels to inspire us to continue our journey into Krav. You never know what your gonna get when he teaches and that’s what makes it so cool.
Now considering where I train, I would like to point out that I have never had the privileged to be in a class taught by Ryan Hoover. Near misses have prevented me from ever meeting the man. But I have heard enough Horror stories to know that his classes seem right up my alley.
Ryan is different from any instructor I’ve ever had. I’ve done a bunch of different things for a few years, and Ryan’s been the only one that’ll go “come on guys, I want to see you smile,” while your holding some painful position for about a minute longer than you think is necessary.
Andre and Tuan are both great. Andre really focuses on burning you out, which I absolutely love. Tuan has some great anecdotes and really focuses on the minor details. Between the two you get the best of both worlds.
It’s hard to say which of the three I like better, as all of them bring something different to the table. I know this much, I’m glad to be training under all three, as I’m sure the experience I’ve had learning under them will help me be much more effective if I have to go “hands on” with somebody.

I did Muay Thai for a while before I started doing Krav. I definitely had to relearn a few things as far as stance goes. I’ve wanted to take it back up for a while, but I’m worried it’d clash too much.
However I have been taking BJJ and I absolutely love that. I don’t think I’d go for an arm bar, triangle, or any of that stuff in a real world fight, but being more comfortable on the ground isn’t a bad thing. Plus with how popular MMA is now, you never know if the guy your about to go hands-on with knows a few things, so submission defense is key in my opinion.
Plus I’ve got a real urge to compete, and there’s not many Krav competitions.
