    Re: Dog Attack Defense

Punch it in the eye. Kick and stomp it until it’s broken. Attack it with the same ferocity it attack you with. I can’t think of an alternative apart from running.

Re: Just had my very first sparing against another student, I need tips.

By your own admission, you say you got some good strikes in and managed some 360, so it doesn’t sound as bad as you think. Maybe your just being too hard on yourself.

I think that maybe you had the misconception that training techniques over and over make you untouchable in a confrontation? Once you accept that this is not the case, you should do better; because you shouldn’t let a non-knockout quality punch shake you off your intended path. Just re-focus and carry on.

As for training tips, well I am not an instructor, but from my personal experience, I would recommend you take some hard punches and kicks whilst sparring and learn to cope with them. Learn to avoid, receive and counter them. That’s just me though.

Speak to your instructor. He/she should be able to help you.

    Good luck.

Re: Contact Combat in summer 2009 films

It wasn’t a movie, but The Unit had a great fight between Mac and Tom Ryan at the end of a mission. That was a fantastic reality based fight and probably the best I have seen on screen. It was short, but brutal!

    Re: The price you pay

£35 a month -two 2 hour sessions in the week, one 2-3 hour session on sundays (level 3 and up). No contract. No minimum term. Used to be £50 a month but that changed when the recession hit and numbers are better now.

Re: Handling threats in high school

    @Skelegirl
: Oh, how times have changed. Your also in a different country, which I should take into account next time.

Here in Britain, when I was young(er), you didn’t get arrested and charged for a schoolyard fight and still don’t unless there is serious long term injury or death. The police would tell you to stop wasting their time. If it’s just a fight, it’s between the students, parents and head.

Re: Handling threats in high school

I agree with the other posters, in that you should try to avoid a confrontation.

He sounds like all talk, because if he wanted to cause you physical harm, he probably would have tried it already. Sounds like he is trying to intimidate you and protect his rep by talking crap to others, instead of to your face. Remember, if you oppose a bully who has a rep, you are a threat to him. If he loses his rep, he loses his security blanket. He needs to feel liked/feared/respected.

The next time, you could warn him directly to back off. If he doesn’t get the hint, I (personally) would take action, but bear in mind that fights happen a lot differently than you have seen in movies or even trained for with Krav. Don’t ever under-estimate someone’s ability. He may not be a martial artist or trained, but that doesn’t mean he can’t handle himself.

Unfortunately, a month of Krav training won’t get you very far in a real fight if that’s all you bring to the fight. For example, have you or do you get hit hard in the face and body regularly? Do you know how to take a punch, deal with it and re-focus? Have you trained ground fighting yet? You probably will go to the ground at some point (regardless of the krav system teaching you not to go to the ground, it CAN happen) or one hard punch from an opponent could end it for you. A month of Krav or any other system won’t teach you to deal with that shock off the bat. That takes time, and practice (spar lots and get hit many, many times).

Saying all that, think your decisions through thoroughly before getting into it, and remember that there are always consequences. Like the previous posters said; talk with others (parents and officials) first.

    P.S
Personally, I would knock his ass down, because in school you can do it without being arrested and charged- LOL- man, I hate being old(er).

    Good luck.

Re: Want to see how quickly a knife can kill you?

Regardless of knowing, krav, that strike moved way to fast to defend. Also, they looked as though they knew each other.

    Re: Want to learn KM

Krav can assist you in losing weight and changing the shape of your body, but it can only assist. Keep up you other exercises and eat right. Losing weight and learning Krav won’t be easy or quick, it will more than likely be a long process and demand lots of commitment and will power from you. As long as you are determined, you will achieve your goals.

    Good luck.

    Re: Reaction speed

    Tips o improve reactions:

1: Get hit lots. Eventually you will get it.
2: Relax your eyes, don’t look at an opponent in the eye and try to let your natural intincts take over. Again, you will have to get hit a lot to teach your mind to react quicker.

3: Try to spar with people better and faster than you. Your mind should eventually adapt. It’s also important to analyse the sparring session afterward in your head. Mental training, visualisation and analysis are very important.

There is no easy and quick fix.

Re: Why is affiliation so important?

    quote Cearball:

Dirty Harry is your view about instructors making up techniques etc from personnal experience?

No, it’s not. It’s a logical counterpoint to the notion that an affiliated instructor is more accurate and trust-worthy than a non-affilated one. Anyone can distort material to suit thir own needs.

I guesse it comes down to trusting your instructor.

Re: Why the hate on Krav by MMA people?

Some good points there that answered my question very well. I suppose it does come down to ego, personality complexes and inexperience. Thanks people.
