    Re: Weird Injury

Thanks Yakes. I’ve never had a stinger and nobody could tell me anything more than “they hurt” when I asked them.

After bitching and moaning about it for a day or two my wife reminded me…

“Maybe you hurt it when you were moving the piano.”

    Oh… Duh… I forgot about that…

    quote Bull1189:

    Congrats!

Now you have no more excuses for missing class (new baby, sick, exams, blah, blah, blah. . . . ).

I’ll give you your kick in the pants there.

    :box:

    Thanks for rubbing it in…

The lack of krav (and any other physical activity) recently has has driven me right up to the edge…

    Re: Iron Man ROCKED!

Agree… I am pretty critical when it comes to movies and I felt it was worth every penny I paid, and would see it again tomorrow.

As far as comic to movie conversions I think it is on par with Batman Begins.

    Re: Switching KM Schools

I’m moving soon so I’ve been talking to a few friends in other areas. From what I can understand it all depends on the instructor.

Sorry… Not much help but that’s the only thing I’ve found to be consistent in my research.

    Good instructor = Good class.

Other variables like mixing levels, number of students, other disciplines taught in the building don’t seem to matter.

    Re: Thieves are strange

Here’s my dumbest Criminal EVER story….

Christmas 2001… I went into a restaurant with a friend of mine. Unfortunately, he forgot to hold up the handle on the door as he shut it (the Japanese handshake) and so the door was left unlocked.

The thief opened the door to the truck and took the following.

Several self help books on sexual addiction (my friend’s field of study).

An old pair of socks. They were thick and wool and I loved them but seriously, USED SOCKS?

Some… not all… but SOME of my CDs… This wouldn’t surprise me but the ones they chose to take makes all the difference.

They left behind anything top 40 or Pop-ish and took off with…

THE GRATEFUL DEAD and WILLIE NELSON!!!

The Dead?!?! Seriously?? As a hippie I think I’m required to give away a Dead CD upon request. Who steals a Dead CD? And Willie? The blue eyed stranger? What kind of thief listens to Willie? rofl2

Re: I need to get my priorities straight…

    quote Satilan:

    Lol dude, you’re funny.

    Thanks… That’s usually my goal…

    quote Satilan:

My conclusion is that it is important not to be “asking for it” i.e. don’t be texting on your phone while walking to your car at night in Compton…

I couldn’t agree more. I firmly believe that about 95% of crimes are crimes of opportunity. A thug sees a guy walking out of an ATM all by himself late at night and counting his $20 bills as he walks to his car talking on his cell phone, somebody sees the door to your car unlocked so they reach in and grab the iPod they see on the seat, etc…

I think if a “professional” criminal is out to get you then they’re probably going to get you. If somebody wants to ambush me, I can’t spend my whole life looking around every corner for them. However… I CAN avoid the lion’s share of problems by not making myself an opportune target.

    Re: Intro class/beginning equipment

These days you can find wraps and gloves at almost any sporting goods store. E.G. Big 5, Dicks, Sports Authority, etc.

I got mine at a local Big 5. I paid about $5 more than my friends who bought from online sources but if you don’t have time to wait for shipping you can get them pretty quickly that way.

Hmm, maybe I’ll suggest to my wife the need for polygamy via the strength thru numbers aspect. Harems are safer… I like it!

You could make it a career move. I hear there is an opening for a polygamist leader on a ranch somewhere in Texas.

    Re: Explaining Krav to Dr’s

    Invite him to class!thumbsup

    Seriously…
What your neurologist is going to want to know about is “contact.”

Make sure you tell him that you do occasional drills with “surprise” headlocks and chokes and stuff. My guess is that he’s not going to approve but you want to make sure to give him the full story. Better to be safe and heal completely now rather than go half ass on rehab and end up with long term side effects.

    Re: Head Gear?

    quote Huginn:

At our gym we don’t train with headgear. Is training with headgear mandatory in the US?

No but give it time and I’m sure somebody will try to pass a law… Before you know it we’ll be required to wear a motorcycle helmet when crossing the street.

    Re: Head Gear?

I ordered headgear from these guys http://www.kofightgear.com/

I REALLY like the headgear and the price and customer service were really good.

    Also…

My buddy got his shin guards and gloves from them.

    Re: Ohad Gidon-Born into it.

Ok… All the nit picky stuff aside the thing that KILLS me watching this kid is his balance/footwork. He’s freakin’ fast and never once looks like he’s even slightly off center. He looks like he could be sorting mail or putting away dishes, not throwing punches. Even on his high kicks!

This was the first thing that attracted me to Krav. Upon taking Krav lessons I fully expected there to be a long class about how to make it look like you were bored while kicking the hell out of somebody. When I watch advanced Krav demos I am constantly surprised by the economy of motion.

    Also…

    quote JamesH:

Point a fake pistol at a baby in the baby’s reach and the only response you’ll get is the baby grabbing the pistol.

After reading this I made my hand into the shape of a pistol and pointed it at my 3 week old son. My research concludes that a baby’s initial response is to attempt to suckle the end of anything pointed near its face…

Re: a question for any IKMF instructors

    Ah… The magic word…

    quote shooter:

    …warmup…

I’m sure there are some here on the board who disagree but I figure, if it gets the blood moving anything is ok once in a while.

I have also heard a really good argument for playing “child’s games” as a warm up.

Re: a question for any IKMF instructors

You mean “chicken fights?” The one where you sit on someone’s shoulders and try to knock over someone else who is sitting on another person’s shoulders?

They do that in a Krav class?
