Re: Tragedy, friends son murdered.
Sean, that’s awful. Just goes to show that no where is safe, even in front of your house.
It does sound like MS-13. That would not surprise me one bit.

Situational awareness is key, particularly at times when we are upset about something else or otherwise let our guard down. We have to guard against this at all times. You survived, which is the most important thing.
Ryan is a great teacher and has a really good school. Maybe you could arrange to spend a few days there for a “crash course” in KM.

I always enjoyed watching him fight. He was a tough guy. Apparently, he would often take trips into the desert to clear his head, and enjoyed the challenge of it.

There are some folks who just need to die, and he is one of them. Few things really get me riled up, but someone who hurts kids is one of them.

It looks like this is going to be a long clean up effort. Prayers for all those affected.

I follow the three stupid rule.
Don’t go stupid places
with stupid people
to do stupid things.I don’t go to bars, and I don’t get drunk. Doing either is placing yourself into a situation where you are far more likely to get into trouble. Why up your odds?

#1, I’m a born-again child of the King, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
#2 I am a devoted husband, father and now grandfather.
#3 I am a Deputy Sheriff by day, and have 20+ years of law enforcement experience. Certified NRA handgun/shotgun instructor, ASP instructor, and perpetual student of all things combative—H2H, knife, stick and gun.July 5, 2008 at 2:37 pm #67829michaelMemberRe: I have a shotgun question, need expert opinions
quote unstpabl1:Thanks buddy:beer:Would dummying it down to 20 guage offer any advantage for an apartment
As far as overpenetration—not really. Either will go through walls. The 20 gauge does have much softer recoil, and is more manageable for some folks, but it’s greatest limiting factor is the lack of available defensive ammo for it. Not nearly the selection that a 12 gauge has.

quote unstpabl1:Thanks. I’m not a shooter, but everything I’ve read seems to say KISS(Keep It Simple…..) i know all these guys with these hi-end SWAT approved 45’s that always seem to be in the shop or buy these new design guns that are finicky in what they’ll feed. It just seems that functionality and a proven track record is the priority. Like krav, its not so much how good it looks but if it works.Michael are the Mossberg and Remington under $400? And for Home defense do they need any mods or good to go out of the box
Also any thoughts on shotgun for living in an apartment?
Mike,
Either one is GTG out of the box. If you’re going with a Mossberg, I would spend the extra $$ & get the 590. It was designed for military use and is sturdier than the 500. A 500 would work and is still durable, but the 590 is stout. You can still get a 590 for under 500 I believe, and certainly on the used market. You can sometimes find a 500 or a Remington 870 for around 250.00 or so. I paid 350.00 for my 870, but it’s got all the bells and whistles, though I bought it used.
As far as apartment use goes, overpenetration with any firearm is an issue, but one that is cured with proper shot placement. Training is key with any firearm. Just remember than underpenetration is the greatest cause of bullet failure, and some may recommend something less than 00 buck because you are in an apartment, but I would not. Load it with 00, IMO.
Hope this helps.

I’ve been using the MMA gloves on my BOB for several years now with no problems. I often do not use gloves when hitting BOB, but sometimes I do, but haven’t noticed any problems.

July 3, 2008 at 4:04 pm #67752michaelMemberRe: I have a shotgun question, need expert opinions
I’ve got two Remington 870’s. One a department issued police magnum that stays in the cruiser and one marine magnum for my house shotgun. The PM is bone stock, and all I have added to it is a sling and butt cuff. The MM has an extended mag tube, butt cuff, synthetic stocks, and a tritium bead front sight. Both have been flawless and are excellent SG’s.
The Mossberg 590 is an excellent gun as well, and the one thing I like about it over the Remington is the location of the safety. I carried one of these for years as my cruiser gun, and it was flawless as well.
Either will serve you well.
July 3, 2008 at 3:56 pm #67750michaelMemberRe: Airsoft
The slide recoils so fast that if you do not have hold of it before the pistol is fired, it will have already cycled before you can grab it. This is provided the trigger has been pulled, of course. If you grab the slide before the trigger is pulled, then one round will fire and the slide will not cycle. If your hand is not over the muzzle and the muzzle is averted away from your body, you will not feel much at all, other than possibly a little concussion from the escaping hot gases out of the end of the barrel. That is not enough to burn you, unless your hand is directly over the muzzle.
As far as Airsoft goes, the same thing applies, though without the gases and muzzle blast.

If they are charging for a “mid-term test”, that’s a load of bovine scatology. I would not pay it,and I would report them to the NTC.
