Re: Force Decisions: A Citizen’s Guide
quote Don:I just hope he’s putting out accurate/good info…His books Meditations on Violence: A Comparison of Martial Arts Training & Real World Violence and Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected were good reads.

quote Don:Has Rory Miller ever worked Patrol (out on the streets) or has all his LE experience been inside Custody/Corrections?Dunno. From what I’ve gleaned from his bio, one could deduce that his LE experience has been exclusively Custody/Corrections.

quote KMyoshi:I think prospective students and students alike just need to research their instructor/training studio and make informed decisions.I couldn’t agree more. The bottom line is “caveat emptor”!

Hair grabs are in KMWW’s Level 3 curriculum. Purchase the book Complete Krav Maga by Darren Levine and John Whitman. Hair grabs start on page 194.

I concur with TacticalTimmy and Mara_Jade. We all know that we have to crawl before we walk and when we have mastered this skill, the next thing is learning to run. You can’t expect to do much alive training if you haven’t mastered the basics. We do plenty of alive training at my school, but it’s scaled to experience.

Apparently, IKI’s Moshe Katz got wind of some of the comments made in this forum, so he blogged about Krav Maga lineage on his Web site.

quote Ryan:I don’t know the context for the technique, as it’s being taught here. Are there third party considerations? Is the gun pointed center of the body or is one side favored? How much pressure is being applied to the right shoulder? All good points. The “gun threat with wall pin” depicted in the book Black Belt Krav Maga, page 51, shows that the gun is more to the left of the victim’s body (the short side) so the gun is redirected in that direction. In addition, the take away in the book is different from the two variations demonstrated in the video clip.

quote lions2011:Why does the level 2-3 focus on so many bizarre kicks like side kick, back kick, slap kick, etc…“The reasons for including these “fancy” techniques are:
- Because other systems use them, we must be proficient enough to train how to defend them.
- Increased ability to perform these techniques tends to improve the basic techniques as well.”

quote lions2011:I am still a yellow level. All the fighting systems you mentioned are sports oriented. Do those systems teach defenses against handguns and long guns, edged weapon threats and attacks, blunt weapon threats and attacks, blunt weapons against edged weapons, blunt weapons against blunt weapons, edged weapons against edged weapons, multiple attackers, third party protection situations, carjacking situations, home invasion situations, etc.???

quote Don:IMO, the best way is to involve your significant others/family members in the preparation for SHTF incidents. Like preparing for fires, earthquakes, floods, other natural disasters, etc except taking it to another level. This is exactly what we’ve been told at our school. Sometimes we’ll have a seminar where we bring in significant others and involve them in various non-weapon related third party protection scenarios.

quote unstpabl1:NY real estate is extremely expensive, thus the rates more than likely. The school in the article is actually in Cheshire, Connecticut which is 104 miles north of New York City. The Northeast is expensive, period.
