Re: Why the hate on Krav by MMA people?
As I stated in another thread similar to this, you may never know which is better until you pair the two up in the ring/octagon/street or whatever. Maybe that Sport Science or World’s Greatest Warrior show should do something like this. It would be interesting to see a BJJ fella attempting to put an arm bar or ankle lock on a Krav Soldier while they get their groin smashed with hammer fist’s. I would pay per view this for sure. In fact, maybe I should set it up and hit my ticket to millions…..
As far as comparing the different forms. There are so many pro’s and con’s to all that it is difficult to compare.
All I know is I would hate to square off with someone who is shooting for for my eyes, groin, throat and pressure nerves while I attempt a judo throw….. Our instructors teach us some biology while we train and we therefore know some serious man stoppers!!!
Who knows, I respect all forms of MMA or MA and would love to learn something from all of them. For now, I am dedicated to Krav Maga.

The only formal training I have had has consisted of a small amount of boxing and military hand to hand. This all came before I started in Krav. I would never say one is better than another because they all have their strengths. I do know that Krav Maga kicks ass though……:combat:

quote riken:Can you elaborate? Ohhh I get it, you were playing 52 card pick up. :D:LOL… Each suit is an extremely difficult excersize. 2-10, Jack =11,
Queen = 12, King = 13 and Ace = 14. Non-stop pull a card do that number of that denoted excersize and immediately upon completing that card, pull another card.Smoked me pretty bad.
Excersizes used yesterday included…
Sit-up and reach with 30 lb weight
Burpees (Squat thrust for my fellow military folk)
Sit-outs
Capoeira LungesWe finished the deck in 30 minutes and it was tough.:box:

I learned that a deck of cards can give you the best workout of your life!!!

I’m with Krav Princess though I cannot choose between them all. We have a staff of excellent instructors here at Krav Maga Detroit. As far as I can tell, our instructors are second to none.
quote Krav Princess:My mentor and dedicated instructor to Krav Maga, Pawel Cichowlas, of Krav Maga Detroit is by far one of the best instructors I have learned from. His belief in the system and knowledge of the system is amazing. My success in Phase A is all because of him.April 9, 2009 at 1:14 am #74680gearyMemberRe: Congrats To Pawel Cichowlas!!!
We couldn’t ask for a better head instructor. :box2:Great work and congrats Pawel. Outstanding…..

I think those of us who do partake in activities like KM are forever cursed to live the life of anticipation. However, this does give us the edge, (theoretically) that when something does happen, we will be prepared.
Before KM, I was already trained in fighting, had been in countless fights and was already very strong. This gave me a sense of confidence when I walked around or went anywhere. I would often think, I am pretty sure I am the baddest mofo in this place.
With KM, I have humbled significantly and now I often find myself thinking, I may not be the baddest mofo here and if that mofo has a gun, I am going to have to go on the defense and now I know how…..
I do not think cockiness is healthy but confidence is….
February 3, 2009 at 4:21 pm #73121gearyMemberRe: Straight Punch
Whether your hand is vertical, horizontal or anywhere in between, it is important to remember to strike with your pointer and middle finger knuckles more than anything. from what I gathered, this is the reason KM teaches the vertical hand position at first until you really learn how to punch effectively.
January 29, 2009 at 4:45 pm #72987gearyMemberRe: Stance question
Having your hands fisted or open facing eachother is prefered for new level Krav Maga practitioners. This is considering you should be striking with your pointer finger knuckle in line over top of the rest of the fingers. Like the picture in my avatar, this is how your hand should look when striking if you are a beginner. Am I making any sense?
Holding your hands the way YOU like to is eliminating the need to turn your hand over when throwing a strike. I might need some more sleep before I try and answer any more questions…..
LOL Sorry

Thank you all for the responses. After an alarming and nearly instant concensus to go to the doctors, I did just that. No breaks and just some inner and outer bruising. In fact, it feels 80% better than it did two days ago. I will be attending class tonight and plan on hammerfisting my day away. Just kidding, I will take it a bit easy on my hand tonight.
As for my wife, she is good to go as well. Her thumb is still tender when she bumps it now and then but I expect her to be back in KM class by Wednesday.
Thanks again everyone.

Sore??? Oh man I am nearly incapacitated. My class last Monday put me oun of commission up until today. Our instructor had us warm up with the marathon. 25 reps of Jump Squats, Judo Squats, Divebomber pushups and another crazy leg burning excersize. Then after that we immediately knocked out 100 extremely fast paced jumping jacks. I nearly quit after the warm up. My legs still hurt but for the first couple days following the class, Icould hardly walk at all. Made me kind of cour to be honest. I’ll get over it. Not going tonight though. I am waiting for tomorrow.

Why yes it is. I am tossing around the idea of a grenade tattoo. I have a couple in mind and the other is in my pictures album. I wouldn’t get it on my hand though. Probably an addition to my arms collage. What do you think?
January 23, 2009 at 1:20 pm #72795gearyMemberRe: Success stories – ever had to use krav?
Now this may be standard protocol for instructors when they are trying to sell you a membership but in my case, one of my instructors told me a good hook, line and sinker story a couple weeks back. One of our level two students (male) was walking with a buddy in Pontiac Michigan when 4 or 5 thugs jumped them. Our student used all of his basic (level one) defense techniques including but not limited to, kick to the groin, choke from the front defense, and groin/mid-section knees to fend of the attackers. They managed to get him to the ground at one point where he used his hip toss and kick away techniques to stand up and by the time he recovered he realized his friend had been long gone running for a while so he decided it was a prime time to retreat as well.
He was hospitalized for stitches from a bottle attack and some minor scrapes and bruises but most importantly, he escaped with his life and his safety. He was able to bang up a couple or more of the attackers using his Krav Maga techniques. Enough said for me…..
Signed up and loving every minute of it.

quote workin4alivin:Well, I’m a newb here and just stumbled on this thread. I don’t believe the population should be subjected to this level of BS. If I had an opinion, I would prefer you all take this to PM, if you want to continue this nonsense. I am especially taken aback by those of you who are, or claim to be cops, who have chosen to engage this thread and vent your anger and opinion. You become upset with something this trivial and jump on the bandwagon here and yet your agency turns you loose on the street with a weapon???? Just goes to show you that the physic testing for cops could be improved upon!Anyway, being new here, my view of this thread is that all this rhetoric is just a bunch of drama and would seem to perpetuate a consensus of some who believe KM is made up of a bunch of musclehead brawlers/bar bouncers. As this thread goes on, I’m waiting for someone to drop a challenge and meet up on the playground. And, if you play the, “If you don’t like it, don’t read it” card, that just further validates my point.
Just my 2 cents.
I agree with you that the drama that has surrounded this thread is annoying, nevertheless, you added to it by bashing police officers and the standards required to become one. You question the practicality of “letting them loose in the streets with weapons.” Wouldn’t you rather them be passionate people about what they believe in and actually seek justice in an otherwise un-just world?
Perhaps I have just added to the drama by replying to your post!?!? I guess the cycle continues. Here we are, all grown men and women, arguing on an online forum in regards to something that none of us may ever prove. We all share a common bond and maybe, just maybe, we should focus on that instead of our differences. I am no angel and I am sure I could heed my own words.
Here’s my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free.
