Re: Showy moves don’t get you anywhere.
I LOVE that scene. It’s so Krav to me. Just punch him so hard he doesn’t get up. Or as my instructors often say “it better be the punch of your life.”

I wouldn’t say I’m “worse off” but it does seem a bit off-putting at times when I think about the fact something is pretty much strained, sore, tight, pulled, touchy, bruised, etc. at all times now. Some days it’s a hamstring, others a shoulder, still others a quad…depending on what I worked on that week. Last week as we left class one of my friends said, “Why is it that every time I walk out of here something else is sore?????”
Congratulations on enduring the test, I hope you passed!

Head up to Boulder for amazing scenery and plenty of hiking and biking opportunities. They also have some great restaurants. AND the nice thing about Boulder is it’s only about 15-20 minutes from the school. The bad part is putting up with the hippies. heh.
And I have no idea what you’re talking about when you speak of this “flat on your back” business at James’ school…rofl2 He was running around testing the new Shock Knives for Winter Camp last Friday.

I ate 2 (homemade) breakfast burritos (just eggs, hashbrowns and tortillas though) for breakfast but made sure it was well before the 11 a.m. test. After the review I was starving and managed to choke down half of a peanut butter sandwich and a handful of crackers before they called us back in for the test. Some people told me that would have made them sick. If I hadn’t though I think I would have passed out! I think like the others have said, do what your body is normally comfortable with.
I also think it’s much better to get nervous now, than the day of the test. I seriously freaked out the Friday afternoon before the test but that seemed to get it out of my system, and was only a little anxious by the next morning.
Be confident. Be aggressive. Be explosive. And remember that it really will be over at some point. Even though about half way through you may be convinced you’re stuck in some kind of bizarre time warp and the test will go on indefinitely. ha ha!!

Aside from all the Krav training I like to keep the quote from Bas Rutten in the back of my mind at all times, “Do NOT underestimate the kick to the groin…”

It’s great fun. And a lot of work!
January 20, 2009 at 7:54 pm #72675tinykravMemberRe: What do you wear?
I wear shorts that people can’t see up when we’re doing ground work. Also I prefer they have a tie-waist so I can make it really tight – because I worry about those things when we do certain drills.
I tried to wear athletic pants last Friday and thought I would overheat.
A few ladies at my school wear thongs – that you can see hanging out of their pants – that always kind of freaks me out. :Surprised:
I am really glad though that we don’t have much of a dress code. I can’t imagine!
January 13, 2009 at 12:36 am #72459tinykravMemberRe: Did anyone else feel dumb at there first class?
I’ve been doing this for 8 months now and I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve completely embarrassed myself. I’ve fallen, gotten directions mixed up on a drill and threw everybody else off, been pushed halfway across the room in a choke before I remembered the proper defense, hit myself in the face (did that twice last Friday), gone to elbow a pad and missed it entirely and went zooming past my partner (more than once!), and on and on and on. And that doesn’t even count Friday night Fight Class where I REALLY screw up.
Just get used to it and have fun! There will be times when you feel like you can do anything and there will be times when you wonder why they aren’t kicking you out! haha!

Does a raise come with it?
(gawd, I’ve officially become my parents – “Will you be making more money dear????” – sheez)December 12, 2008 at 3:38 pm #71618tinykravMemberRe: Nervous about Krav Maga.
A room full of 6 foot tall, totally ripped men??? Where did you say this class is?!?!?! rofl2 (I couldn’t help myself, I had to ask.)
I won’t tell you what I weigh because then I’ll really get hassled (it’s more than 90 lbs!!!!) but let’s just say I’ve been told I look like Mickey Mouse with my boxing gloves on. I’m usually the smallest one in the room unless someone happens to bring their little kid that day.
Don’t worry about your size in Krav Maga, if there’s a drill where you really need to be paired with someone who’s close to your size the instructor should tell you. One of the things I love dearly about Krav is that I can perform defenses that everybody else does because it’s not based entirely on size.
I NEVER tire of the looks on some new guy’s face when we’re doing random choke defenses and they’re surprised when the pluck really does work and “Mickey Mouse” blasts their hands off her throat. It’s so cool, that sometimes I make the mistake of wanting to stand there and savor it. ha ha!!

“…initial shock…”
yes. That’s a good word for it. And at the same time doesn’t even begin to cover it! :chair:

If you missed it, you can watch the entire episode at cbs.com.
I thought it was very exciting to watch. It was fun to see it in the context of something other than a class. Good stuff.

I had NO idea about this possible “free drinks or TV” business! I’ll have to remember that.

Visit http://www.operationgratitude.com to see how you can donate your leftover Halloween candy to the troops instead of eating it all like I did. (You can also donate money and other fun stuff until Dec. 5th that they’ll put into care packages for the soldiers.)
